Support to Lawn Bowls team from Norfolk Island |
13-15 August
|
Our Club with the Entrance RC recently provided some assistance to three young girls from Norfolk Island Public School who came to the Central Coast to play in a NSW Combined High Schools Lawn Bowls competition held at Bateau Bay. Competing were Ellie Dixon, Maycee Deszecsar and Tracey Wora. who were accompanied by their mothers. Norfolk Island is an external territory some 900klm off Tweed Head with a population around 1700. We assisted with their travel costs, and with a cheer squad, Bob and Bev from our club, and Pres. Robin and Clive from Entrance RC.
The girls played well against tough competition, but didn't make the finals. One challenge they faced was the difference in the greens - this time of year the Bateau Bay greens were dormant for winter, hence a lot faster than those on Norfolk which is sub-tropical. The girls had a great experience, and it was fun to watch.

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

The Garage Sale 2018
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 13 & 14 October raising a record gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |

This Week's Humour
A man walks into a rooftop bar and takes a seat next to another guy. “What are you drinking?” he asks the guy.
“Magic beer,” he says.
“Oh, yeah? What’s so magical about it?”
Then he shows him: He swigs some beer, dives off the roof, flies around the building, then finally returns to his seat with a triumphant smile.
“Amazing!” the man says. “Lemme try some of that!” The man grabs the beer. He downs it, leaps off the roof – and plummets 15 storeys to the ground.
The bartender shakes his head. “You know, you’re a real jerk when you’re drunk, Superman.”
