President Keith's Report 18 October 2021
We covered several topics tonight at the Club Assembly. Danielle Manton fielded a range of questions on Acknowledgement of Country.
Activity is on its way. Bunnings BBQ, our BBQ Trailer at Council Elections, installation of Street Libraries and a R100 sign at the Rotary Garden were all discussed. Whatsmore, I left the Tree of Joy Committee meeting (Tuesday Night) elated that the hard work of that committee will yield an excellent Christmas for many, many kids. Looking forward to Roslyn Savio as Guest Speaker next week. Stay Safe. Keith |
Welfare Report
Ros Bushell
Dick advises Ros is progressing slowly. It will be a long process but they are staying positive and are able to get out each day to go for a walk.

13. Keith summarised the status recommended by the nominated group – only at special meetings, not at all meetings, not in website or bulletin. To be reviewed in 18 months. Plus Keith read the recommended wording. It was also recommended we had a speaker on this subject.
14. Unanimous acceptance of this recommendation at the board.

- d. DT asked how do you feel about using the Acknowledgement only part time – DM said this is ok – we need to be comfortable with its use.
- e. Alex. Do we need to specify particular area if somewhere else. DM - Ok to be non-specific but easy to google the name of a particular area.

- g. DM was thanked for her explanations and left.

18. DT working party did a good job and presented to board plus DM presentation. DT now understands and sounds like a good first step.

24. ER why the change – if it aint broke don’t fix it.
25. There was further discussion on the wording:
- a. BD - DM says do what you are comfortable with. Why Hornsby shire? Wording should refer to these lands and not be specific. Drop Hornsby and refer to lands of Darug plus whoever is appropriate for Hills District. Also thinks proposal is too verbose.
- b. KB – we need specific advice on which aboriginal groups relate to the land on which we live and meet.
- c. DL – suggested we ask DM for appropriate wording.
- d. MH – do we need to identify the land or be non-specific.
27. KB then introduced David Turnbull who had just scored for Celtic Football Club.

“COVID -19 Variants and Vaccines, the Lockdown update”
COVID-19: Variants & Vaccines, the Lockdown Update - YouTube
The presentation was accurate as of 9th July 2021. Some widening of the age group acceptability for the AstraZeneca vaccine have been made since that presentation date.
The 2 main speakers were Internationally renowned experts in immunology and vaccine development, Professor Tony Cunningham and Professor Sarah Palmer.
I have attached a link to that presentation. It is well worth watching.
I also took some Notes and attach for those who only wish to get a quick grab - but the notes don’t do the presentation justice.
Kind Regards
Colin McGowan

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
