Support for Rotary Club of Patong Beach:
Feed Phuket - Rotary Covid-19 Project
Hi Rotary Club Members.
At our Zoom Club meeting on the 11 May, we had the benefit of hearing from Denis Carpenter, a past founding member of RCWPH&C
We appreciated listening to his experiences living in Phuket and Bangkok.
The board members were particularly touched about the plight of foreign construction workers
who had no work and no food due to Covid restrictions.
His Rotary club support for these people deserves our club support.
Subsequently, at last night’s Board meeting we agreed to contact you, our members, for a brief fund raising campaign.
The money raised would be provided to The Rotary Club of Patong Beach, of which Denis is a member.
Request:
We would like you to consider donating the equivalent cost of your Rotary Club meal,
that you would normally spend at Springfield House.
Or whatever amount you think appropriate.
Assistance: Feed Phuket - Rotary Covid-19 Project.
Please direct your donation to:
Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook
BSB 633000
Acc 165 073 115
Please mark your donation Your Surname & Phuket
The funds collected will be matched by a further $1000 from our club.

Rotary Shipping Container at Galston
We now have two 40 ft High Cube containers on Hornsby Council land at Galston. We thank Councillor Vince Del Gallego for initiating the approval process with Hornsby Council and Perry Spence from the Council for his assistance at the Galston site following approval from his managers. Thank you to Tom, Gino, David and Keith for getting the containers installed. Tom also provided the steel tubes for the footings and arranged for their installation by a concrete contractor. We now just need to install shelving then we can use them to help generate funds. Based on the cost of renting containers of a similar capacity at the next door Hills Storage we recover our storage costs within 15 months.

President's Report 18 May 2020
Night Report - 18 May 2020
Our meeting on Monday was a combined meeting with Rotary Club of Coonabarabran.
President Ian Bell (Coonabarabran) opened the meeting with invocation and toasts
Guests were welcomed by Russ James.
Our club had Directors Reports from Janelle Craig who suggested that we may be able to share our Exchange Students with Coonabarabran.
Colin Sharpe gave a brief explanation of Rotary Emergency Service Community Awards and asked for nominations.
Colin reported on the delivery and placement of containers for our club storage at Dural.
Peter Stanton Requested that members support Dennis Carpenters appeal for funds to be forwarded to the Rotary Club of Phuket
in East Timor ( via our clubs on line bank account) to relieve starving workers in remote construction camps. Perhaps an amount equivalent to the cost of our meal at Springfield.
Rosemary Clarke gave a briefing, mainly for the benefit of Coonabarabran members, as to how we raised funds (approx. $30,000)
which this Club forwarded to aid farmers and businesses in Coonabarabran and surrounding country areas.
These activities included : Our Garage Sale, Book Sale, Trivia night, Tree of Joy Presents , Donation jars at Bunnings BBQ’s
and above activities. Plus private donations.
Jo Wilkin from Coonabarabran Club gave an account of how this relief was undertaken, including a shared zoom screen of pictures, with graphic and sobering before and after shots of the local area, which reinforced for us city slickers just how tough the conditions were and are for our country friends.
Members of the Coonabarabran rural community reported on the value of the Rotary support.
Speakers included CWA President Lyn Sanson, Julie and Councillor Peter Shinton and Marie Knight.
After a brief Questions and Answers segment we showed them how we run our Heads and Tails game, with Bottles of wine as prizes.
Presidents Keith and Ian thanked everyone and closed the meeting at approx. 8.45pm

This Week's Humour / Interesting Facts
Pray for the Deaf
The preacher enquired, "anyone with 'special needs' who wants to be prayed over, please come forward to the front by the altar."
With that, an Aboriginal got in line, and when it was his turn, the vicar asked him, "Mulrunji, what do you want me to pray about for you?
Mulrunji replied, "Preacher, I need you to pray for help with my hearing."
The preacher put one finger of one hand in Mulrunji's ear, placed his other hand on top of Mulrunji's head, and then prayed and prayed and prayed.
He prayed to the 'Almighty' for Mulrunji, and the whole congregation joined in with great enthusiasm.
After a few minutes, the preacher removed his hands, stood back and asked, "Mulrunji, how is your hearing now?"
Mulrunji answered, "I don't know. It ain't 'til next week”.
Thanks Stan
The MAIN problem with golf is that the slow people are always in front of you and the fast people always end up behind you.

The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
