Pres. Rosemary's Report - 15 March 2021

Picture
Picture
After a busy Rotary weekend with the mini–Book Sale and 4 Friendship dinners, attendance was down at our meeting but how sad for those members who missed out listening to Sandra Hanna from Duplexity. A very interesting concept!

Thank you to Neville and the Book Sale team for a great day – just over $800 raised and it was nice to work with fellow members.

The Friendship dinners were a great success. Many reports of late afternoons/evenings, great food, stories and empty bottles! Thank you to the Cootes, Tchetchenians, Turnbulls and Sharpes for their wonderful hospitality!

The R100 Commemorative Plaque event is taking shape. Please keep Saturday afternoon 17th April free for our celebration and afternoon tea. Invitations hopefully go out this week. Thanks to the committee for your input.

Please don’t forget to let Tony Coote know of your attendance at the ANZAC dinner on April 26th at the West Pennant Hills Sports Club. Numbers and payment is required by this Friday.
Bunnings BBQ this Saturday, Rotaract Charter on Saturday 27th April, BBQ at Heritage Park on Monday 29th March. There is plenty going on so please be involved. What an amazing club!!

Clean Up Australia 2021

The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook participated in its first Clean up Australia Day event on March 7.  In the past early March has been devoted to our Giant Rotary Book sale, however, that did not occur this year due to the constraints of COVID 19.

Fifteen club members, partners and family spent a couple of hours collecting rubbish from around the Cherrybrook fire station, guide hall, container  reverse vending machine, Lakes of Cherrybrook, and the bush area behind Kindalin at the Shopping Centre.  A couple of the participants even had a look in Bidjigal Reserve close to where they live.

The most interesting find was a Coles Shopping Trolley at Bidjigal which had strayed at least 5 km from the nearest Coles.
A stash of tagger’s spray cans was found near the container reverse vending machine.  No syringes were found.

The residents of Cherrybrook are to be congratulated for the tidiness of this  part of their community.  We 0nly collected 4 bags of general rubbish  and 1 of recyclables.
We had time to clean-up the garden between the fire station and the guide hall as a separate event.

To conclude a successful event some participants celebrated with a non-alcoholic drink..

2019 Trivia Night

The Club held a very successful trivia night on Saturday 17 August 2019 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising near $6,600 all of which will go to assist drought relief. Click this link to read more.

 The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.

Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result.

Barbecues

The club runs fund raising barbecues throughout the year, mainly at Bunnings  (both Dural and Thornleigh)  Here are Barry, Tony, Nick and David hard at work. at Thornleigh..

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week
  • to be available on weekends.

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.

If you would like to come along as a guest to see what it is all about just call either:-
