Pres. Rosemary's Report - 5 April 2021

Picture
How wonderful to see so many members, partners and guests at our Springfield meeting on Monday evening. An interesting guest speaker, Ken Hind informed us of the Metro constructions. It was lovely to induct Bob Whyms into our club. Welcome Bob.

Thank you to the Book Sale volunteers who helped raised $1,115 with $48 of donations towards the RAWCS flood appeal. Our club will add to that, I’m sure.

It will be exciting to celebrate our R100 centenary commemorative plaque unveiling on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm at the RFS site. Our DG David Clark, Hornsby Shire Mayor, the Hon. Mr Philip Ruddock and our ADG Robert Erskine will be present with other community members including RFS and Girl Guides. It should be a memorable occasion. Thank you so much to the committee for their help.

So many things happening in the club – ANZAC meeting, Pride of Workmanship, mini–Book Sales, Coonabarabran Equestrian Expo, Hunter Valley social trip, Friendship dinners – please get involved. So many opportunities to help others, raise funds and have fun.

See you on Saturday afternoon.

Rosemary

Update from Flooding in NTA areas- West Timor

NTA: East Indonesia Aid has managed to contact our staff in NTT, and photos are coming through showing us the devastation caused to those areas. These are two schools in Sumlili (West Timor) which we supported through appeals in the past couple of years, wiped out by the floods and torrential rains.

We are currently working on an appeal to raise funds for the affected communities in NTT, but you can also support some of our ongoing initiatives here: https://www.nta.org.au/

Thinking about our local partners and friends in NTT this week, as we pray and hope for a smooth recovery from the widespread destruction

2019 Trivia Night

The Club held a very successful trivia night on Saturday 17 August 2019 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising near $6,600 all of which will go to assist drought relief. Click this link to read more.

 The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.

Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result.

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required

  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.
