Pres. Rosemary's Report - 29 March 2021
Rotaract Charter
On Saturday 27th March, the Rotaract club of Pennant Hills-Cherrybrook was chartered. District Governor David Clark assisted by Assistant District Governor handed the charter to President Jason Terry in front of the other Rotaract members. The new club is co-sponsored by Pennant Hills Rotary and our club after about 12 months of support and mentoring. We wish the new club great success, and we look forward to working together. Report for the Bulletin A beautiful evening, wonderful company, a great array of BBQ food and lively conversation. Where? At the Heritage Park, Castle Hill. Who could have asked for anything better? Thank you to Tony Coote and his team for organising a wonderful casual meeting. The night report contains all I had to say except for the next Book Sale which will be at the Uniting Church garage on Saturday 10th April. Please watch this space for more details. Also, please can I have your replies to the R100 plaque unveiling at the Rotary garden on Saturday 17th April at 2:30pm? We have invited many dignitaries and community leaders, but we need numbers for catering. Please can we order the same weather as we had at the BBQ on Monday evening!!!! If you are heading away for Easter drive carefully and enjoy time with your families. Rosemary |
Night Report - 29 March 2021
Tonight we had an outdoor meeting at Heritage Park. The weather was kind to us, it was cool and clear for our barbeque.
22 members and partners partook of assorted barbequed (or not barbequed) food ranging from salads to cordon bleu presentations. There were assorted shapes of sausages and the odd steak or kabab but Neville took the prize for the best meal with his stir fry.
Rosemary had lots to report, including:
Thanks to the 7 members who attended the Charter of the new Rotaract Club. Congratulations to Jason and the team.
Reminder that we need final numbers for the R100 garden celebations by 12 April. Please bring a cake or slice for the afternoon tea if you are attending.
The blue shirts have arrived - thanks to Keith. They look amazing.
There was a Presidents Zoom meeting on Saturday morning. Here are the key points
Next face to face meeting is April 12 when Bob Whyms will be inducted.
Thank you to Tony Coote and his team for organising today.
Happy easter – travel safely – just an informal chat on zoom on Easter Monday.
(Thanks to Rosemary for providing a note of all this – night reporter.)
No other directors provided a report.
This was a very relaxing social Rotary meeting. All agreed that we should do it again.

Clean Up Australia 2021
The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook participated in its first Clean up Australia Day event on March 7. In the past early March has been devoted to our Giant Rotary Book sale, however, that did not occur this year due to the constraints of COVID 19.
Fifteen club members, partners and family spent a couple of hours collecting rubbish from around the Cherrybrook fire station, guide hall, container reverse vending machine, Lakes of Cherrybrook, and the bush area behind Kindalin at the Shopping Centre. A couple of the participants even had a look in Bidjigal Reserve close to where they live.
The most interesting find was a Coles Shopping Trolley at Bidjigal which had strayed at least 5 km from the nearest Coles.
A stash of tagger’s spray cans was found near the container reverse vending machine. No syringes were found.
The residents of Cherrybrook are to be congratulated for the tidiness of this part of their community. We 0nly collected 4 bags of general rubbish and 1 of recyclables.
We had time to clean-up the garden between the fire station and the guide hall as a separate event.

Retiree Mental Fitness Evaluation.... thanks Cawas
This test is to ascertain your mental state now. If you get one right you are doing ok, if you get none right you better go for counseling. (I'll meet you there.)
There are 4 test questions. Don't miss one.
1. Giraffe Test
How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator? Stop and think
about it and decide on your answer before you scroll down.
The correct answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close
the door. This question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an
overly complicated way.
2. Elephant Test
How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?
Did you say, Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close
the refrigerator? Wrong Answer.
Correct Answer: Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the
elephant and close the door. This tests your ability to think through the
repercussions of your previous actions.
3. Lion King Test
The Lion King is hosting an Animal Conference. All the animals attend
... except one. Which animal does not attend?
Correct Answer: The Elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You
just put him in there. This tests your memory.
Okay, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still
have one more chance to show your true abilities.
4. Crocodile Test
There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and
you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?
Correct Answer: You jump into the river and swim across. Haven't you
been lis-ten-ing? All the crocodiles are attending the Animal
Conference. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.
According to Anderson Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of the
Retirees they tested got all questions wrong, but many preschoolers got
several correct answers. Anderson Consulting says this conclusively
proves the theory that most Retirees do not have the brains of a four-year-
old.
Send this out to frustrate all of your smart friends..
PS: Just the fact that I sent it to you should make you feel good.

The Golden Phone - provided by Bev
An American decided to write a book about famous churches around the world.
So, he bought a plane ticket and took a trip to Orlando, thinking that he would start by working his way across the USA from South to North.
On his first day he was inside a church taking photographs, when he noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read '$10,000 per call'.
The American, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by, what the telephone was used for.
The priest replied that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 you could talk to God.
The American thanked the priest and went along his way.
Next stop was in Atlanta. There, at a very large cathedral, he saw the same looking golden telephone with the same sign under it. He wondered if this was the same kind of telephone he saw in Orlando and he asked a nearby nun what its purpose was.
She told him that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 he could talk to God.
'O.K., thank you,' said the American.
He then travelled all across America, Europe, England, Japan, New Zealand. In every church he saw the same looking golden telephone, with the same '$US10,000 per call' sign under it.
The American decided to travel to Australia to see if Australians had the same phone.
He arrived at Noosa in Australia and again, in the first church he entered, there was the same looking golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read, '40 cents per call.'
The American was surprised, so he asked the priest about the sign.
'Father, I've travelled all over the world and I've seen this same golden telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to Heaven, but in all of them, the price was $10,000 per call.
Why is it so cheap here?'
The priest smiled and answered,
'You're in Australia now, son - "This is Heaven," so it's a local call'.
KEEP SMILING
If you are proud to be an Aussie pass this on!

The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
