President Keith's Report 13 September 2021
Tonight some 30 people listened to PDG Tim Moore wax lyrical about the
RI Convention in Melbourne 2023. Cawas has accelerated planning for Tree of Joy and is having a committee meeting on Thursday. Bev Davison is raising monies by selling books online. Barry Philps has delivered some District Directories. And finally: What do men and boys long for, agonise over, aspire to? Why are men often silent in dark and difficult situations? Why do so many find it hard to express how much they care? …… You will have to wait till next week when our Guest Speaker discusses these D&M items. Stay Safe Keith |

“COVID -19 Variants and Vaccines, the Lockdown update”
COVID-19: Variants & Vaccines, the Lockdown Update - YouTube
The presentation was accurate as of 9th July 2021. Some widening of the age group acceptability for the AstraZeneca vaccine have been made since that presentation date.
The 2 main speakers were Internationally renowned experts in immunology and vaccine development, Professor Tony Cunningham and Professor Sarah Palmer.
I have attached a link to that presentation. It is well worth watching.
I also took some Notes and attach for those who only wish to get a quick grab - but the notes don’t do the presentation justice.
Kind Regards
Colin McGowan

Welfare Report
Howard and Megan in exile
Hi All Members.
This is day 30 we have been camped in the RV Motorhome area behind the local football club. Here we have access to fresh water, a dump point and can go to the club for dinner which we do every Wednesday night. The site is gravel but level and flat and there is space for up to 24 RVs. We haven’t moved on yet towards home, Sydney, because we are not sure if the borders Victoria and NSW are friendly open. We are waiting until this weekend to see if it’s worth while moving on east. Our current plan is to drive not to Broken Hill but to Renmark over the Vic border to Mildura then over the NSW border. Then along the Hay Plains to Wagga and onto Sydney. This depends if we are allowed to stop a few days in each NSW town. We are enjoying our stay in Port Augusta as we can move around sightseeing and going to the shops. This helps fill in the days. Plus I’ve had a couple of medical check ups at the hospital and phone consultations with my specialist. Looking forward to returning to Sydney. Howard and Megan.

Humour of the week
There is no doubt that teachers have had a very difficult 2020, here is some humour especially for them…
"Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your
school. In order to assist you in connecting the right staff member,
please listen to all your options before making a selection:-
To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1
To make excuses for why your child did not do his work - Press 2
To complain about what we do - Press 3
To swear at staff members - Press 4
To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your
newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5
If you want us to raise your child - Press 6
To request another teacher for the third time this year - Press 7
To complain about bus transportation - Press 8
To complain about school lunches - Press 9
If you realise this is the real world and your child must be accountable
and responsible for his/her own behaviour, class work, homework, and that
it's not the teachers' fault for your children's lack of effort ... hang
up and have a nice day!"

The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
