Assistance for Bushfire Victims and Firefighters
The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook have discussed a number of options to assist our Bushfire victims and Firefighters. The NSW and VIC Governments are indicating they do not want any more physical donations of goods as they are overwhelmed and are recommending donating cash.
If you would like to donate, attached is the link to the RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service) page where you can donate through Rotary and as always, what you give is what will be delivered. No overheads.

If you would like to donate through other organisations, then the Sydney Morning Herald had an article on Sunday 5th Jan, with a number of reputable organisations.

As always, thank you for your support, Happy New Year and give generously.

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |

President's Report 10 Feb 2020
|
Hi all,
Rosemary has requested we devote the entire meeting of the 27th April to the Garage Sale. Essentially we need to find a project manager and a committee to support this manager. Tonight we held a Club Assembly. I hope that members enjoyed my approach of an open and frank assembly. We covered topics such as:
Despite pushing fast through the abovementioned, we went overtime in opening the assembly, to allow members to raise matters important to them. Inter alia, the issue that reverberated was, that we devote too much time to fundraising, and too little time to doing things for the community. I agree with the sentiment, and mentioned same to the assembly. I will re-double efforts to have “doing things” in the calendar. Coonabarabran I sow the following thought. A phalanx of Jedi Knights from RCWPHC perform a recognisance tour of Coonabarabran. Ostensibly this tour is for recreation and to attend “Dark Sky Awakens Festival Coonabarabran | A festival of all things Star Wars, May 8-10 2020, Coonabarabran, NSW.” Here is a link https://darkskyawakensfestival.com.au/ Click “About” once you have opened to learn more. The other purpose is to find other means to support Drought Relief, in this town. Rotary Rocks Keith |

Peter Stanton - Jokes in the Bulletin are inappropriate and not in good taste and offensive to some partners.
Debate for and against
Bulletin editor to use his/her discretion.
Janelle - SOKS something the board to look into it’s a long term project with a lot of commitment and has to be sustainable and will need people with passion and apathy.
Colin S reminded all that it was a project run by Lifeline to be funded by the club.
Overall everyone felt that we needed more information before taking any decision
It was decided to organise a soft committee to scope the project and explore it further and to put it at the next Club Assembly.
Keith - Personal Pool 1) IT Groups 2) Night Photographer. We need more volunteers for the above roles happy to offer training as it is becoming onerous for a few volunteers to continue doing the above roles.
We also need every member to be actively involved within various committees.
OTHERS - Edwina members should pay for the food & coffee consumed at the Garage Sale/Book Fair.
David we need more hands on Community Service projects for currently we are spending more time doing fund raising. Maybe look at a happy medium.
Adrian - club should consider having a Service membership so that those members who are only interested in doing projects do not have to attend all the meetings.
