President Keith's Report 09 August 2021
I estimate some 55+ were enthralled by the presentation from Pastor David. In addition to our members, there were representatives of RC Pennant Hills and RC Coonabarabran. The Coona mob held a special FtoF meeting to join in. Additionally members of Uniting Church from Cherrybrook and Coonabarabran also attended.
I congratulate Janelle on a fantastic meeting. We now have two members enrolled in Rotary Learning Institute, with a third expressing interest. I urge any member to consider this wonderful course. The Club will pay the tuition fees. Sticking to Learning and Development, My Rotary has access to several courses related to Rotary, and also Toastmasters. Enrolment is free, so if you are bored during the Covid19 lockdown, why not do some surfing. Home | Rotary International Stay Safe Keith |

Night Report - 09 August 2021
Our Zoom meeting held on Monday 9 August 2021 was attended by 40 people.
Sergeant Tony informed us that Friday 13 August was International Left-Handed Day. He gave virtues of being left-handed. There appeared to be no left-handed members of the Club although Edwina Ruff claimed to play golf left-handed. Sergeant Tony made a toast to Australian Rotary, Freedom from Covid and left-handers.
President Keith welcomed Alex Jugueta, Mr Grant, guest speaker Pastor David Shrimpton, Joe and Lindsay from Coonabarabran Rotary Club, Narelle Pfifer, Deborah Debono and Carolyn Woods from Uniting Church Cherrybrook, Howard and Megan and David Firth from Pennant Hills Rotary Club.
Members enjoyed the Changeover held on Zoom on 2 August 2021 and Keith thanked Rosemary for the work she did for the Changeover.

Sergeant Tony handed over to Janelle to introduce our guest speaker to the Club.
Janelle introduces Pastor David Shrimpton from Broken Hill Rotary Club.
Pastor David Shrimpton is a Uniting Church minister, and currently in placement as ‘Flying Padre’ for the Broken Hill Flying Patrol, New South Wales. He has been in this role since March 2014 and enjoys engaging with people of all ages from all walks of life.
Prior to 2014, David and his wife Jennie were in full time ministry as officers with The Salvation Army. Together David and Jennie served for five years as church pastors / officers in Port Pirie and Golden Grove, South Australia, before relocating to the Northern Territory in 2003.
In 2003 David commenced ministry in a chaplaincy role as Flying Padre with The Salvation Army. It was during these 11 years of ministry in the Northern Territory that David flourished in his passion for meeting people where they are, and communicating genuine faith through serving others. The additional training he received as Military Chaplain for the NORFORCE unit in Darwin also cemented his skills as a practical and professional chaplain.
David has a strong connection with the Broken Hill School of the Air, is currently Police Chaplain for the Broken Hill Local Area Command, a Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network chaplain and member of Broken Hill Rotary Club. He has been married to Jennie for 28 years and spends his downtime cooking, gardening, woodworking and camping.
After a very interesting talk by Pastor Shrimpton, Sergeant Tony advised we would forego the usual Sergeant Session and handed back to President Keith to close the meeting.
President Keith thanked Alex Jugueta for attending. He advised there was a Board meeting on Wednesday night. Paul Mandeno, Master Story Teller, will be presenting next week.

R100 Garden
Three months have passed since the formal “opening “ of our R100 garden at the RFS/Girl Guide site. With some tender love from Anne and Tim Sharpe who covered the garden with leaf mulch and Rosemary who often weeds it on her local walks, it is flourishing.
Every plant is doing well, the DG’s plant is flowering along with several others. When you are in the area pop in to check up on it. It adds to the attractiveness of Cherrybrook.

COVID-19: Variants & Vaccines, the Lockdown Update - YouTube
The presentation was accurate as of 9th July 2021. Some widening of the age group acceptability for the AstraZeneca vaccine have been made since that presentation date.
The 2 main speakers were Internationally renowned experts in immunology and vaccine development, Professor Tony Cunningham and Professor Sarah Palmer.
I have attached a link to that presentation. It is well worth watching.
I also took some Notes and attach for those who only wish to get a quick grab - but the notes don’t do the presentation justice.
Kind Regards
Colin McGowan

GOLF IN HEAVEN
Don’t hit any ducks!!!
Three golfing partners died in a car wreck and went to heaven...
Upon arrival, they discover the most beautiful golf course they have ever seen.
St. Peter tells them that they are all welcome to play the course, but he cautions them that there is only one rule: "Don't hit the ducks during your first three months here."
The men all have blank expressions, and finally one of them asks, "The ducks?”
"Yes," St. Peter replies, "There are thousands of ducks walking around the course, and if one gets hit, he quacks, then the one next to him quacks and soon they're all quacking to beat the band. It really breaks the tranquility all over heaven, and if you hit one of the ducks, you'll be punished. Otherwise, everything is yours to enjoy.”
Upon entering the course, the men noted that there were indeed large numbers of ducks everywhere. Within fifteen minutes, one of the guys hit a duck. The duck quacks, the one next to it quacked and soon here was a deafening roar of duck quacks.
St. Peter walked up with an extremely homely woman in tow and asks, "Who hit the duck?” The guy who had done it admitted, "I did.” St. Peter immediately pulled out a pair of handcuffs and cuffed the man's right hand to the homely woman's left hand. "I told you not to hit the ducks," he said, “Now you'll be handcuffed together for eternity.”
The other two men were very cautious not to hit any ducks, but a couple of weeks later, one of them accidentally did. The quacks were as deafening as before, and within minutes St. Peter walked up with an even uglier woman.
He cuffed the man's right hand to the homely woman's left hand. "I told you not to hit the ducks," he said; "Now you'll be handcuffed together for eternity.”
The third man was extremely careful. Some days he wouldn't even play for fear of even nudging a duck. After three months, he still hadn't hit a duck.
St. Peter walked up to the man at the end of the three months, and had with him a knock-out, gorgeous woman - the most beautiful woman the man had ever seen. St. Peter smiled at the man and then, without a word, handcuffed him to the beautiful woman and walked off.
The man, knowing that he would be handcuffed to this woman for eternity, let out a contented sigh and said aloud, "I wonder what I did to deserve this?”
The woman responds, "I don't know about you, but I hit a duck."

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
