Pres. Rosemary's Report - 15 February 2021
From not so sunny Queensland, I Zoomed in on Monday evening. It was good to see 26 members and our guest Lisa Macaskill.
Thank you to the board for continuing to lead the way especially as I’m away for February. Results from the board meeting include a rise in dinner fees to $35, club polo shirts will soon be available to order at $30, lots happening with hopefully a mini book sale and the next round of Friendship dinners. It was interesting to hear our guest speaker talking about Pilates. I think I’m willing to have a go as Lisa says – “If you don’t use it, you lose it!!” Thanks Lisa, for explaining the basic details to us all. You will all be interested to hear Bob Whyms speak at our next face to face meeting at Springfield next Monday. Bob is a wealth of information on all things that move – cars, planes, bikes etc. Don’t forget to send in your apology if unable to attend. Another reminder of our District Conference on March 13th. Please register – maybe we can share the experience at our home for those who are interested. Enjoy next week’s meeting and I may see you on Zoom on March 1 – we will be travelling home from Queensland then. Rosemary |
Night Report - 15 February 2021
President Rosemary welcomed everyone, stating she is currently in rainy Coolum, Queensland, so not so perfect!! She hoped everyone enjoyed their Valentines Day on Sunday. Thank you to Keith for deputising form me at the very successful Springfield NTA dinner meeting.
Welcome to Jason officially to our Club. Also hopes everyone likes their new name badge.
It is a shame about the book sale and Rotaract’s Charter day due to bad weather last Saturday 13 Feb.
At the Board meeting last Wednesday 10 Feb. it was brought up that, if not already done, you MUST update the WWC certification, which Tony Makin has previously asked everyone to do.
There will be a Rotary Information – AG Presidents cluster this Thursday evening, 18 Feb.
DIRECTORS REPORTS
Keith - At the Board meeting, it has been decided to increase the Dinner fees, when attending Springfield, to $35.00 per person, as we need to break even each week. This will assist to cover the guests/speaker. We also need to meet minimum numbers of 28 persons.
The Board also agreed to go with the light blue Polo shirts at $30.00 each. They are a small make so it is suggested to take the next size up. Please advise Keith within the next 3 weeks of your size for ordering.
Neville - We are doing the book sale this Saturday, 20 Feb. so please advise by email what shift you could assist with. We will accept books, but nothing over 10 years old.
Tony Coote - on behalf of Paul, as Keith mentioned we need to cover costs for Springfield, which is still the most competitive for our Dinner meetings. We will still have wine & raffles to obtain funds to assist with costs, as the account is dwindling. Our sponsorship over the last 12months is very small. Rotary membership fees will remain at $300.00 per person.
Now for Social, the friendship Lunches /Dinners are organised and the Hosts have been advised etc. Please take some photos for the bulletin.
Hunter Valley, 23/26 May, 2021 has been booked for 10 rooms, and only 1 room left, so please advise asap if you wish to join the group. The hotel will allow cancellations up to 3 weeks prior to arrival.
Keep the Monday 29 March free for our meeting at Heritage Park or Galston for a BBQ.
Anzac Dinner with the Lions Club is planned for Monday 26th April, at the West Pennant Hills Sports Club.
On Friday, 26 February, there will be a Rotary 101 Session for new members, at Carol Russel’s office. Please advise is you wish to attend.
David - Foundation is going OK. Nothing to report.
Carol - Nothing to report, but the Dural Roundup magazine will be out in March, 2021.
Kerry - Waiting on new dates from Bunnings for the next round of BBQ. Prepare yourselves.
Guest Speaker - Lisa Macaskill
Steve Baker had the pleasure in introducing our guest speaker, Lisa Macaskill,
It was instant love when Lisa found Pilates in 2006. Lisa is an exercise enthusiast who loves running, cycling and working out in general. Lisa started out as a personal fitness trainer and was taking Pilates classes for herself. She soon realised the benefits of the method after experiencing the changes within her own body with regard to strength and flexibility and how it advanced her cycling and running performance. She then worked towards becoming a Pilates instructor and soon transitioned from the world of PT to the world of Pilates. She is fully qualified in all pieces of Pilates equipment and has been working in the industry for 15 years now. She teaches Pilates from the heart, with deep understanding and purposeful movement which she endeavours to share with her clients. Lisa aims to empower her clients to be responsible for their own movement patterns and wants clients to feel successful with every movement. Lisa’s style of Pilates is never about perfect movement but they are about allowing you the space to find your way to your best movement. As Joseph Pilates said “Change happens through movement and movement heals”.
Lisa started us off showing a simple exercise, holding the back of a chair and stretching your right leg to the side. Then swap legs. She calls herself a Movement Practitioner – to move freely and with ease. If you don’t loose it – you loose it!! Flexibility vs Mobility.
Postures are similar to Yoga, there is a cross over. Pilates should be done 3 times per week, as it is a FULL body workout.
Flexibility – passage range of motion, the ability of muscles to stretch
Mobility - range of motion within or around joints. Mobility is beneficial to most people and protects the joints. Optimal mobility – strength + flexibility.
Pilates can be highly personalised in a 1:1 setting or in a class with equipment. It can be a mix, maybe 1 class utilising equipment and then exercises at home. Pilates is about a flowing movement, maintaining or increasing your mobility through exercise. As you continue with Pilates your body tends to adapt to movement strategies and create new habits that allows you function and move more efficiently.
Should you wish to contact Lisa for a 1:1 session her website is Pilatesextension.com.au
Sergeant Session – Max – was a little different with a selection of funny short videos. It gave us all a good laugh, which I am sure is well needed. Thank you Max.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE
WHEN YOU'RE OLD, AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.
George Phillips, an elderly man from Walled Lake, Michigan, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.
George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked, "Is someone in your house?"
He said, "No, but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me.
Then the police dispatcher said, "All patrols are busy, you should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available"
George said, "Okay."
He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot and killed them both; the dogs are eating them right now." and he hung up.
Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"
(True Story)
Don't mess with old people
GETTING OLDER
A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office.
"Is it true," she wanted to know, that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?"
“Yes, I'm afraid so,” the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, "I'm wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'."
==================================================================================================
An older gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation.
As he was about to get the anesthesia, he asked to speak to his son.
"Yes, Dad, what is it?"
"Don't be nervous, son; do your best, and just remember, if it doesn't go well, if something happens to me, your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife."
(I LOVE IT!)
=================================================================================================
Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
This is so true. I love to hear them say: "You don't look that old."
=================================================================================================
The older we get the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Mostly, because we forgot why we were waiting in line in the first place.
=================================================================================================
When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
=================================================================================================
Ah, being young is beautiful, but being old is (sometimes) comfortable.
=================================================================================================
First you forget names then you forget faces.
Then you forget to pull up your zipper... it's worse when you forget to pull it down.
=================================================================================================
Two guys, one old, one young, are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart when they collide.
The old guy says to the young guy, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going."
The young guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too. I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate."
The old guy says, "Well, maybe I can help you find her... what does she look like?"
The young guy says, "Well, she is 27 yrs. old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, is buxom... wearing no bra, long legs, and is wearing short shorts.
What does your wife look like?'
To which the old guy says, "Doesn't matter, --- let's look for yours."
(ADORABLE)
=================================================================================================
(And this final one…)
"Lord, keep Your arm around my shoulder and Your hand over my mouth!"
Now, if you feel this doesn't apply to you, stick around awhile… it soon will!

The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
