Pres. Rosemary's Report - 02 June 2021
On Wednesday evening we attended Pennant Hills Rotary meeting to hear an excellent speaker DPP Lloyd Babb. A very enjoyable meeting and Max took out first prize in the raffle.
The Coonabarabran Equestrian event is on this coming weekend and there are bound to be many stories to tell from the 17 people who are helping.
Please think about helping with the mini-Book sale on Saturday June 12. It is the Saturday of the long weekend, but we would appreciate a couple of hours help from as many as possible. Thank you to Neville and Andrew for the organisation. It is Neville’s swan song before he heads off into the wide blue yonder in his caravan! Thanks Neville.
The social lunch organised by Tony Coote at Sydney Rowing Club on June 20 should be very enjoyable. We hope for fine weather!
The Pride of Workmanship evening is our regular Monday meeting at Springfield on June 21. It is always a great evening so be sure to come along. Partners are always welcome. The dress is Business Casual.
And finally, our Changeover in on Sunday 27 at Springfield for lunch. Please come along to celebrate the year that was and to welcome in the new President and board. The dress is lounge suit/jacket with tie optional.
Stay warm, stay safe and keep well.

Club Changeover at Springfield House - 27 June
SYMT Presents "The Addams Family" on Friday 9 July
“The Addams Family” presented by Sydney Youth Musical Theatre at Hornsby RSL Club, 7:30pm on Friday 9 July 2021 Tickets $37.00.
The Addams Family have lived in their unique values for hundreds of years; however, the family encounters an unforeseen obstacle when Wednesday, now eighteen years old, decides to introduce her new “normal” boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, to the family. Wednesday has found herself experiencing a surprising new sensation, one that frightens both her and her family; she has fallen in love. In protest, Uncle Fester enlists the help of the Addam’s ancestors to call an end to the young budding romance. Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley worry about her changing ways. As the Addams and Beinekes come together for dinner one fateful evening, chaos ensues, and the two families find themselves admitting deep secrets and come together in ways they never would have imagined. The Addams family must face up to the one horrible thing they’ve managed to avoid for generations: change. Guests welcome, eg grandchildren. As with previous productions the suggestion is we dine in the bistro prior to the show, say 6.00pm. Please make your payment ($37.00pp) into the club’s General Account by 30 June and identify your payment with your Surname and "SYMT". |

Peter Cleary -- Update From Ross Ballinger
Peter is gradually improving but is still in Concord Hospital. There is no suggestion as to when he can come home yet.
He was a very sick boy for a while having had Pancreatitis, Problems with his Gall Bladder and Kidneys, a brush with sepsis and being treated for Gout. He is now off most antibiotics and no longer needs dialysis. He is very gradually getting his strength back. He is still in an isolation room with only the family as visitors. I will send out an update when there are any developments as Julie is snowed under with necessary communications. He thanks every one for their thoughts and concern but is finding phone calls very wearing.
Ros Bushell (partner of Dick Bushell - ex-member of the club) is suffering from Myeloma.
She had a stemcell transplant and recovering well in hospital.
Steve Baker is being diagnosed of suffering from Ocular Myasthenia Gravis. he started medication on !st June. The doctor is hopeful that it will restore his vision but it will take time.
Colin McGowan Shingles problem is still vexing but manageable.

His name was Bubba, he was from Mississippi ... And he needed a loan, So ... he walked into a bank in New York City and asked for the loan Officer. He told the loan officer that he was going to Paris for an International Redneck Festival for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000; and that he was not a depositor of the bank.
The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Redneck handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Redneck produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest.
Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Redneck from the South for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's private underground garage and parked it.
Two weeks later, the Redneck returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out on Dun & Bradstreet and found that you are a Distinguished Alumni from Ole Miss University, a highly sophisticated investor and Multi-Millionaire with real estate and financial interests all over the world. Your investments include a large number of wind turbines around Sweetwater, Texas.
What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"
The good 'ole boy replied, "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return?"
His name was BUBBA....
Keep an eye on those southern boys!
Just because we talk funny does not mean we are stupid.

Murphy, a furniture dealer from Dublin, decided to expand the line of furniture in his store, so he decided to go to Paris to see what he could find.
After arriving in Paris , he visited with some manufacturers and selected a line that he thought would sell well back home. To celebrate the new acquisition, he decided to visit a small bistro and have a glass of wine.
as he sat enjoying his wine, he noticed that the small place was quite crowded, and that the other chair at his table was the only vacant seat in the house.
Before long, a very beautiful young Parisian girl came to his table, she asked him something in French (which Murphy could not understand), so he motioned to the vacant chair and invited her to sit down.He tried to speak to her in English, but she did not speak his language. After a couple of minutes of trying to communicate with her, he took a napkin and drew a picture of a wine glass and showed it to her. She nodded, so he ordered a glass of wine for her.
After sitting together at the table for a while, he took another napkin, and drew a picture of a plate with food on it,
and she nodded. They left the bistro and found a quiet cafe that featured a small group playing romantic music.
They ordered dinner, after which he took another napkin and drew a picture of a couple dancing.
She nodded, and they got up to dance. They danced until the cafe closed and the band was packing up.
Back at their table, the young lady took a napkin and drew a picture of a four-poster bed.
To this day, Murphy has no idea how she figured out he was in the furniture business.

The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
