Information for the next Rotary Club of North Rocks theatre night...…………………..

Castle Hill Players have another excellent play planned at the Pavilion Theatre.  The last play for 2019 is on Wednesday 13 November 2019.  The Rotary Club of North Rocks looks forward to seeing you for a night of excellent theatre at the cost of $25 per person.

The next play is 'NELL GWYNN' by Jessica Swale, directed by Jennifer Willison
London,1660. The Puritans have been routed and King Charles II has taken the throne – and brought with him a love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy. In Drury Lane, the heart of the theatre district, a young Nell Gwynn is peddling oranges when her sassy nature gets her a role on stage – the very first woman to ever do so!
She is gutsy and very talented and soon has the attention of the new King. But in a time when women are second-class citizens, can Nell’s charm and fearless spirit protect her from the dangers of the court?
With a cast of larger-than-life characters, plenty of ribald humour and cheeky double entendres, this is a loving tribute to the world of theatre and a woman far ahead of her time.

Winner 2016 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy
“A bawdy, witty, engaging romp” The Times.  By Special Arrangement with Dominie Pty Ltd."
Once again, wine and cheese will be served in the foyer from 7:30pm, with the play starting at 8:15pm.  As those who have attended previously will know, parking is extremely easy.  For those who are uncertain about directions, the theatre is in the Castle Hill Showground precinct, off Showground Road at Castle Hill.
Can you please let us know how many of you and your friends are coming by Thursday 7 November?

We look forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards
Fay Kitto

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

Don't need:
  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week
  • to be available on weekends.

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.

If you would like to come along as a guest to see what it is all about just call either:-

President's Report  4th November 2019

Picture

What a wonderful Melbourne Cup Night.  I estimate 44 members, partners and guests were kept in check by Jim’s easy questions.  George checked us out for the third time, and Clair for the first time.

The large number present is great, however, it took five iterations to get the information to Springfield House.  I will follow through with the action of adding Partners to the Attendance List.  I also note that I only have some partner email addresses, so a request may be forthcoming from Douglas.

There are more Partner Nights scheduled this Calendar year.  There is a Youth Night on 25th November, Kris Kringle on 9th December and a Tree of Joy Present Wrapping at the Turnbull residence on 16th December.  On 18th November, Ross and Helen are presenting a talk on the North West Passage and have suggested that I promote this to partners.

At the upcoming AGM, there are several vacancies for Directors, as many of the existing directors are seeking time-out, please consider joining the Board.  I am available for discussions on what roles are available.

Next week Douglas is presenting a session on coffee.  It has been a few years since his last session which I found educational and entertaining.

Max reminded members of the presenting by the SYMT of the performance “Honk”.   Arrange attendance through Max.
Janelle outlined the Youth Night on the 25th November and the opportunity to meet the  participants chosen by the club to attend the various forthcoming youth events.   A night not to be missed!  She also displayed proposed versions of the new Rotary shirt, calling for comments from members.
Anne Sharpe advised that she and Colin would be visiting Coonabarabran on their forthcoming drive to Queensland and her offer to take any additional Pamper Packs members wish to donate.  Please contact Anne.
Ross Ballinger advised that Howard has left the San Hospital and has been transferred to Mt. Wilga for rehab.
After coffee “Chief Steward” Jim Simson then explained how the meeting would  be conducted.
