Some Essential Services provided by the Community:
Drive thru supermarket- Bella Vista Hotel “Essentials Express”
As mentioned at last week’s Zoom Meeting the Bella Vista hotel (13-15 Lexington Drive Bella Vista) has what they call “Essentials Express” which is a drive thru contactless purchase of essential goods.
They have done this to keep their catering staff and essential workers on. It’s a drive through supermarket where you don’t get out of your car. You give them the food you have ticked from a printout from their Facebook website page “essentials express”, they then then pack it in a box and put it in the boot of your car, then tap and pay. It essentially involves bulk purchases (but not necessarily of all the same food).
Each day they have specials. Some examples are Chicken bundles, Beef Bundles, Mince Meat, Chicken Brest Ham etc, Fruit and Vegetable Boxes, Consumables such as toilet paper, facial tissues, paper towels etc etc, then Pantry items- butter, sugar rice milk cheese sausage rolls etc etc. Then of course there is cases of wine (6 pack), beer, spirits and shake and serve cocktails.
Best way to see what the daily specials are and see what else is on that day (it’s quite extensive) is as I said before to join their Facebook page viz “bella vista hotel essentials express” and then press the “Photos” tab. The latest listing of Food and Prices is on a couple of pages. A new list with specials is printed each morning near the top of the “Photos” page so make sure you haven’t scrolled down to an older dated list.

Cherrybrook Village: Introducing Essentials Express Drive Thru
Hi Neville,
I hope you are well during this unprecedented environment.
We know that a number of senior/elderly people may be anxious to visit shopping centres which puts some pressure on how they can still get access to their weekly fresh food supplies. On Monday, we launched the Essentials Express – it is a drive through pick-up service that may be of interest to some members of the Rotary Club. This initiative aims to provide convenience to our customers and to further support the elderly and vulnerable Australians in self-isolation. The service will be available Monday-Sunday from 9am-3pm with the dedicated drive thru zone located near the loading dock.
To start with, we have teamed up with Martelli’s Market where customers will be able to place an order for a fresh food box containing fresh fruit and vegetable staples, bread, milk and eggs, then drive thru to collect their box.
HOW DOES IT WORK?1. SELECT – an Essentials Box valued at $45 or Premium Box valued at $55
2. PAY – at the time of order, you’ll be asked your preferred payment method, you can over the phone or pay in person via eftpos at the time of collection
3. PICK UP – your order will be ready for collection from our drive thru zone between 9am and 3pm.
Attached is a flyer with the items included in each box.
HOW TO ORDER?- Pre-order by calling 02 9481 0444 or emailing [email protected] with name, contact number and choice of grocery box.

President's Report 4 May 2020
Night Report - 4 May 2020
7:30 Call to Order
Tony Coote – Sergeant - opens the meeting.
7:35 President’s Opening Remarks
7:45 Directors to Speak
Rosemary - West Pennant Hills Sports Club sponsorship may be stopped due to the Club’s closure and having no income. They have been doing some welfare check by calling their patrons for a chat and see how they are feeling. Let’s wait and see.
Neville - Jessica at Martelli’s Cherrybrook has organised basic grocery packs for people to just drive up and pick up without going into the shops, so let people know if they need this help.
Tony Coote – Attended the Rotary Membership Training by Zoom on Sunday and mentioned there were very good ideas and thought it was very thought provoking. Carol also attended.
Janelle - Introduced Katherine Lowey, our exchange student in Austria, also attending our Zoom meeting. Overall there has been no panic or hysteria with the exchange students and only a small few have returned home.
Katherine who is very mature, has been in Austria for 4 months, and the same ‘lockdown’ is happening in Austria with schools, shops, business closed down. Vienna is approximately 2.5 hours away from where she is living but she has visited Vienna and the tourist sights pre lockdown. Her Club has approximately 150 members and they meet at lunchtime, so she cannot attend the meetings, being at school. She is enjoying her music practicing the flute and piano and now trying the violin and piccolo.
She is currently in Grade 6 which is equivalent to our Year 10, and they were NO shoes indoors at school!! She is coping ok with the language and still feels a little homesick but getting to know her new family. Unfortunately her ski and Euro trip have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus.
8:10 Rosemary introduces Dr Mellissa Jospeh
Who lives in Cherrybrook and works in Riverston.
Dr. Joseph advised us that there is 57 cases of the Covid-19 virus at Hornsby and 9 cannot be traced in this area. It has mostly been bought in via overseas visitors prior to the lockdown, which has been good to slow this virus down.
The Public Health Officer has certain protocols to trace infections like a spider web, behind the scenes. The guidelines are changing on a daily basis and is overwhelming. Some people have told stories just to get inside the practice, and they have even had their toilet rolls stolen. Doctors in their General Practices can now test for the virus which has helped a great deal and they still have to be followed up.
People are listening to the public health notices which is good. To check the virus, is requires a swab in the throat and nose. Masks and social distancing is required and is a very slim chance of contracting the virus. Again personal hygiene is very important, re-touching anything and do not touch your face. Continue to wash hands and suggest do not put your shopping bags on the bench, wipe benches and put bags in the sunlight.
Only a small number of people have a reaction with the alcohol wipes etc.
Please download the APP, this is a great tool.
Thank you Dr. Joseph.

This Week's Humour / Interesting Facts
An Amazing Story
The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram, and Max, invented and developed the first automobile air-conditioner.
On July 17, 1946, the temperature in Detroit was 97 degrees.
The four brothers walked into old man Henry Ford's office and sweet-talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter.
Henry was curious and invited them into his office.
They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car.
They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the air conditioner and cooled the car off immediately.
The old man got very excited and invited them back to the office, where he offered them $3 million for the patent.
The brothers refused, saying they would settle for $2 million, but they wanted the recognition by having a label, 'The Goldberg Air-Conditioner, on the dashboard of each car in which it was installed.
Now old man Ford was more than just a little anti-Jewish, and there was no way he was going to put the Goldberg's name on two million Fords.
They haggled back and forth for about two hours and finally agreed on $4 million and that just their first names would be shown.
And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show Lo, Norm, Hi, and Max -- on the controls.
Thanks Stan

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
