Pres. Rosemary's Report - 30 November 2020

Picture
Wow! Wow! Wow! What an evening. Under the guidance of Janelle Craig our Youth Director we were immersed into a youth spectacular.

Jason Terry ( Rotaract), Harishan Ramananthan ( Rotary Program of ENrichment), and Leopoldo (Rotary Youth Exchange from Brazil)  were introduced to the club and we heard of their plans and a little of their personal stories.

Katherine Louey, our club’s  RYE student who has just returned from Austria, shared her thoughts, memories  and future plans. Katherine is a credit to her family for the way she has conducted herself during an exceedingly difficult and worrying time. Katherine’s maturity was there for all to see.

We were delighted to have our District Governor David Clark and 6 of the District RYE committee ably led by Susan Wakefield. Add our Assistant Governor Robert Erskine and parents, visitors and partners, and you can see what a wonderful evening it was.
Welcome to our newest member Ros Hogan who was inducted on the evening– it’s lovely to have you join us.

On other matters, thanks to Douglas and his team for a sizzling hot BBQ on Saturday; to Alan for finally being able to host the car run despite the heat and to the Tree of Joy team for their continued work.

Our AGM is next Monday by Zoom followed by our Christmas dinner on the 14th and Tree of Joy sorting on the 15th.

A busy but rewarding time for all.
Stay healthy and safe.

Welfare Report

Colin McGowan is enjoying his little break and in good spirit. He joined us at Bunnings BBQ last Saturday coping well in 40 degree heat.

Tony Coote has a growth next to the Thyroids removed and is on the mend. (Card)

Miriam Sonego is undergoing treatment for a severe pinched nerve. Hopefully surgery not required. (Flowers)

Howard Fleming has checked himself into hospital due to heart problems. CAT Scan, MRI and Angiogram did not show any abnormality. However doctor report his heart muscles are weak and medication should improve the condition. Visited Howard on Thursday and he is in good stead. He is at the SAH (SAN) on Floor 9, Room 2 if you wish to visit him (please be aware of Covid-19 restriction) or just give him a call on 9480 9111. (Card)

2019 Trivia Night

The Club held a very successful trivia night on Saturday 17 August 2019 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising near $6,600 all of which will go to assist drought relief. Click this link to read more.

 The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.

Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result.

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

Don't need:
  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week
  • to be available on weekends.

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.

If you would like to come along as a guest to see what it is all about just call either:-
