Some Essential Services provided by the Community:
Drive thru supermarket- Bella Vista Hotel “Essentials Express”
As mentioned at last week’s Zoom Meeting the Bella Vista hotel (13-15 Lexington Drive Bella Vista) has what they call “Essentials Express” which is a drive thru contactless purchase of essential goods.
They have done this to keep their catering staff and essential workers on. It’s a drive through supermarket where you don’t get out of your car. You give them the food you have ticked from a printout from their Facebook website page “essentials express”, they then then pack it in a box and put it in the boot of your car, then tap and pay. It essentially involves bulk purchases (but not necessarily of all the same food).
Each day they have specials. Some examples are Chicken bundles, Beef Bundles, Mince Meat, Chicken Brest Ham etc, Fruit and Vegetable Boxes, Consumables such as toilet paper, facial tissues, paper towels etc etc, then Pantry items- butter, sugar rice milk cheese sausage rolls etc etc. Then of course there is cases of wine (6 pack), beer, spirits and shake and serve cocktails.
Best way to see what the daily specials are and see what else is on that day (it’s quite extensive) is as I said before to join their Facebook page viz “bella vista hotel essentials express” and then press the “Photos” tab. The latest listing of Food and Prices is on a couple of pages. A new list with specials is printed each morning near the top of the “Photos” page so make sure you haven’t scrolled down to an older dated list.

Cherrybrook Village: Introducing Essentials Express Drive Thru
Hi Neville,
I hope you are well during this unprecedented environment.
We know that a number of senior/elderly people may be anxious to visit shopping centres which puts some pressure on how they can still get access to their weekly fresh food supplies. On Monday, we launched the Essentials Express – it is a drive through pick-up service that may be of interest to some members of the Rotary Club. This initiative aims to provide convenience to our customers and to further support the elderly and vulnerable Australians in self-isolation. The service will be available Monday-Sunday from 9am-3pm with the dedicated drive thru zone located near the loading dock.
To start with, we have teamed up with Martelli’s Market where customers will be able to place an order for a fresh food box containing fresh fruit and vegetable staples, bread, milk and eggs, then drive thru to collect their box.
HOW DOES IT WORK?1. SELECT – an Essentials Box valued at $45 or Premium Box valued at $55
2. PAY – at the time of order, you’ll be asked your preferred payment method, you can over the phone or pay in person via eftpos at the time of collection
3. PICK UP – your order will be ready for collection from our drive thru zone between 9am and 3pm.
Attached is a flyer with the items included in each box.
HOW TO ORDER?- Pre-order by calling 02 9481 0444 or emailing [email protected] with name, contact number and choice of grocery box.

President's Report 27 Apr 2020
Night Report - 27 Apr 2020
Our second Zoom meeting included 27 members, 16 partners, Robert Erskine our Assistant Governor and Vilde Sollien, our previous exchange student from Norway- a fabulous evening.
Neville was the moderator and during the meeting he gave us a mini tutorial on muting, gallery/speaker views, virtual backgrounds, and a few protocols such as be aware of your background, cough or blow your nose on mute, etc. All useful information.
President Keith welcomed everyone especially partners, Robert and Vilde for our “wine and bickies” night. He mentioned the Sunday Assembly Breakout training for incoming Presidents, Secretaries and Club Administrators/ Club Services. Marilyn Kenny will be replacing Jade Catherall as Communications officer, Pamela Noal will be District Secretary again and Russell Grove oversees Club Admin/ Club Services. The session was about an hour and a half and quite informative.
Keith also sent the club’s condolences to Kerry as she farewelled her father in a moving funeral ceremony last Tuesday.
Rosemary as Fundraising Director thanked everyone again for their efforts for the Book Sale – probably the last fundraiser in the District before Covid 19 restrictions. Also, the Trivia Night is cancelled and the Garage Sale as we know it, may be different – it will depend on health restrictions! Pot up some plants whilst gardening and bake/freeze just in case!
Neville gave a member talk on installing solar panels at his home. He chose the micro inverter system and explained how it worked, the savings he will make after 5 years as well as answering questions from a few people. Thank you, Neville. An interesting presentation.
Rosemary then introduced Vilde, an exchange student in 2013/14 who lives in Norway. Vilde saw our club’s Facebook page about our inaugural zoom meeting and liked it which led to being invited to this meeting.
Vilde is now working for a humanitarian children’s company after completing her degree in Marketing and Leadership, and she is home based a little way from Oslo. Vilde told us about her life with Covid in Norway as compared to Sweden where she went skiing last weekend. Thanks for “visiting” us Vilde – we loved seeing you.
David then read a powerful but evocative poem relating to a soldier in WW1 for ANZAC Day. This was followed by a beautiful video set to the Last Post. A wonderful commemoration.
Keith wound up the meeting by thanking everyone for attending especially partners and Vilde. He announced that the containers would be arriving at Galston on Thursday – thank you to Tom, Gino and Colin. Keith thanked David for his beautiful presentation and then announced he still had 140 face masks for distribution!
Another great meeting where we are checking in on everyone and keeping the Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook alive and well.

This Week's Humour / Interesting Facts
Due to people being self isolated at home it has been very noticable by the number of jokes that have come in. We will try to bring them all to you over a period of time.
A BANK officer recently heard the following explanation for a farmer’s financial trouble.
"It all started back in '67 when they changed from pounds to dollars - me bloody overdraft doubled.
Then they brought in kilograms instead of pounds - me bloody wool clip dropped by half.
Then they changed rain to millimetres and we haven't had an inch of rain since.
They brought in Celsius, and it never got over 40 degrees, no wonder me bloody wheat won't grow
Then they changed acres to hectares and I end up with half the bloody land I had.
By this time I'd had it, and decided to sell out. I got the place in the agent's hands when they changed from miles to kilometres.
Now, I'm too far out of town for anyone to buy the bloody place !
Thanks Jim
HAIRCUT
Blessed are those that can give without remembering, and take without
forgetting.
One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked
about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm
doing community service this week.'
The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank
you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the
barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community
service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you '
card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
Then a MP came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill , the
barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community
service this week.' The MP was very happy and left the shop
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen MPs
lined up waiting for a free haircut.
And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the
citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
As Margaret Thatcher said: Both politicians and nappies need to be changed
often and for the same reason!
Thanks Stan

The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
