Pres. Rosemary's Report - 01 February 2021
The first meeting in February saw 24 members and 2 guests Zoom in.
Although we did not have either a member talk or a guest speaker, it was great to let everyone get up to date with what is happening. I tuned into the Australia Day presentation and learnt more about the 2 aims of R100 celebrating Rotary in Australia and New Zealand.
The Face-to-Face partners meeting at Springfield next Monday will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our International project, welcome Jason Terry to our club and say farewell to Peter and Julie Cleary who have been with our club for over 25 years. Please remember to check in with either Keith or John at Altitude Capital – if you don’t send an apology, we presume you will be attending. It should be an amazing night and again I send our apologies. Enjoy wearing your new member badges also!!!! Thank you, Keith. Stay well, stay safe and enjoy Rotary. Rosemary |

George gave a toast, to a united Australia.
Pres Rosemary report:
- The Pres BBQ on 23 Jan was limited to 30 people and we had a fantastic time at the Council land where our containers are stored, Mid Dural
- Mask sales continue and a thanks to those supporting it. Last Friday for 4 hours we sold $65 worth. Thanks to Bev, George and Bob. The low sales are a reflection that masks are now generally not compulsory.
- The R100 Rotary in Australia/NZ program has the following aims:
- Give every child a future by providing inoculations in the Pacific region.
- End trachoma now. Australia is the last developed country to have trachoma.
- We are working towards a Rotary plaque/sign in the guide hall garden. This should have a ceremony in April.
Colin Sharpe provided a community report
- We are aiming to hols a mini book sale on Sat 13th Fen, subject to approvals and the weather. We are receiving donations regularly and are choosy. Neville is coordinating, and will shortly be asking for volunteers: 7am setup, 9am open to the public, noon close and pack away.
- We also continue to sell donated items online.
- The plaque/sign Pres Rosemary mentioned requires Council approval will be metal on a rock, and large enough to be readable from a distance.
Carol: will place an article on R100in the March Dooral Roundup
Tony Coote:
- Thanked those who helped at the Presidents BBQ.
- Planning a trip away to the Hunter in May. Please let Douglas know your interest.
- We had a Bunnings BBQ cancelled between Xmas and NY. As a thank you, Bunnings provided a few $100 vouchers which Tony will auction off for fundraising.
- The Friendship meals are resuming. Please respond to Tony’s email with interest by Friday.
- Has contacted Lions re Anzac Day function on 19th April to be held at Pennant Hills Bowling Club.

Appreciation message from Coonabarabran
Dear Rosemary.
Jo Wilkin gave me your email address as I was wanting to thank you and all the other Rotarians involved for the Christmas hamper we received. Unfortunately Beverley and I were unable to be at the Belar Creek, Coonabarabran, Christmas get together but our daughter, Belinda Johnson, was there and arrived home with the Rotary gift hamper. What a beautiful surprise!
We decided to wait till Christmas Day to unpack it and found all manner of "goodies" in it. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE CONTENTS OF THE HAMPER AND THE THOUGHTS THAT CAME WITH THEM.
We have had a close relationship with Coonabarabran Rotary over many years, and the great work the organisation does never cease to amaze us. Again, thank you all so much.
With best wishes for 2021.
Yours sincerely,
Beverley and Arnold McWILLIAMS

Hi Stan,
Happy New Year! I hope your trip to QLD went well and you enjoyed Christmas with your son. Unfortunately, our trip to QLD was cancelled with the COVID breakouts – we will hopefully get to visit my husband’s family later in the year.
As previously mentioned, all the wonderful gifts collected in 2020 were given to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. I’ve attached a photograph of my colleague, Deb Moore delivering the presents to the Child Life Therapists that work at the hospital. I’ve also included below some feedback I received from Veronica Oakley, Child Life Therapist.
Hi Tania,
The gifts were received with Joy and smiles.
The parents were extremely grateful for the thoughtfulness and generosity from the Rotary Club and Camp Quality.
There were a few tears when they read thoughts and positive wishes written on the beautiful cards attached to the gifts. Knowing that other people have you in their thoughts and hearts means so much to a family facing the unknown. Please pass on our gratitude for this generous donation.
Thank You
Veronica
I’m hoping that 2021 is going to be a much better one for everyone and I look forward to seeing you later in the year.
Regards,
Tania

2019 Trivia Night
The Club held a very successful trivia night on Saturday 17 August 2019 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising near $6,600 all of which will go to assist drought relief. Click this link to read more. |
The Garage Sale 2019
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 12 & 13 October raising a gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |
What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
