President's Report
Hi all,
Well last night we had our Pride of Workmanship awards (POW) at The Vicar and had some 49 people attend. The primary objective of the award is: To encourage Pride of Workmanship by providing employers with the opportunity, through Rotary, of recognising and acknowledging the efforts and contributions of an employee who consistently achieves an overall high personal standard and work performance.
David Firth who is District Chair for Pride of Workmanship and President of the Rotary Club of Pennant Hills attended the meeting and opened the POW event with a story of Sir Ernest Shackleton and his incredible story. We had three worthy POW recipients. Congratulations Michelle, Lindon and Luke. Thank you to Kerry for organising the night.

Night Report
Bob Davison was Sargeant for the evening and welcomed 2 of our 3 Pride of Workmanship Awardees…also guests, Declan from Coonabarabran our Sister Rotary Club who is staying with Janelle Craig for a few weeks… Kerry Klujin a Visitor for the evening…and David Firth and his wife Heather from Pennant Hills Club. David is generally known as the instigator of the Pride of Workmanship Awards.
President Neville presented his comprehensive report on activities in the past month, see in his Presidents Report section of the bulletin.
Directors then presented their reports for the various portfolio’s
Community Service – Colin Sharpe as incoming President asked Directors for Draft plans for 24/25 to be submitted as soon as possible.
Foundation… David Turnbull asked that anyone who is interested in becoming a Centurion to make their donation of $100 well before 30th June so that the funds can be forwarded to district and credited to our club for this year. This money is used for the various very successful international projects eg Polio eradication. Without our donations these projects would not be possible.
David also noted that a Rotary BBQ would be held by us at West Pennant Hills Primary School where David is employed, on 18th August, usually all benefits to the school, however this time a Tool Sale to be held as well with all benefits to our Club. This is an all day event.
Fund Raising – Janelle Craig. Noted that it was disappointing that the Mother's Day Fair had had to be cancelled due to poor weather, another Fair, maybe a Father's Day Fair may be held in September/October.
There is to be a cake stall at Bunnings BBQ we are carrying out on 18th May at the Castle Hill Site.
Membership…. Carol Russell noted that lots had been happening in the Membership portfolio over the last few weeks… namely the District Assembly where a 1.25-hour session with other Membership Directors from our Region, sharing ideas on attaining new members/retaining existing members. We also had the option to choose another portfolio to learn about.
And as well then Membership Directors of our District met at the Vicar again to listen to what each of our clubs are doing to attract/retain existing members, great ideas exchanged and also good to get to know other club representatives.
Social Carol Russell reminded members of the Play at the Pavillion on 22nd May, Almost Maine. 16 members attending at this time… Proceeds to benefit Grace’s Place.
Tony Coote…. has organised Christmas in July, on 19th at Pennant Hills Golf club. $70per person.
A Dinner has also been arranged at the Baulkham Hills Tafe on Tuesday 4th June. $35 per person/2 course dinner.
Other events being organised on the social front.
Tony Makin, retiring Secretary of the Board asked that everyone check the recently circulated Membership Directory to ensure that their details are correct before the final list was distributed.
Report from our Student Iisa.
Iisa gave us a run-down of her activities during the school holidays, she has been very busy enjoying our Australian sunshine, including visiting Lake Macquarie with the Davison's to their holiday home there.
She is back at school now and is engrossed in a Year 11 Drama production by Students only. She is also Dancing again.
She visited Luna Park with other exchange students and watched Eurovision with other European students where Switzerland won the event. She also watched rugby league on Mother's Day.
After a short break Kerry Mann, Vocational Director then introduced 2 of the 3 Pride of Workmanship Awardees….Michelle Friery, nominated by Neville Hansen and Lindon Paleracio, nominated by Bob Whyms, a third Nominee Luke McLeod was unable to attend at the last minute…. See their resumes in this Bulletin. David Firth on making the Awards, spoke of Shackleton and his extra ordinary leadership skills during his trip in Antartica where he led his men out of a very difficult situation when their ship became frozen in ice and eventually began to break apart. He likened the attributes of each of the Awardees to the skills of Shackelton in their levels of customer care/ client care/ pride in their work/ commitment to the cause/leadership skills in their employment and chosen vocation which had led them to receive the Awards.
Edwina Ruff won the lucky draw and Andrew Little Heads and Tails… a nice bottle of wine to each.
President Neville closed the meeting with a run-down of the week to come and thanked all for their contribution to the evening.
The meeting closed at around 8.30pm.
