MUSTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH
MUSTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH
RYLA 2017 - this is an excerpt from the latest DG's E News & shows why we support RYLA
RYLA 2017 was run and won by 84 new RYLArians. The Organising Committee chaired by David Clark, supported the Facilitators lead by Amanda Firkins together with Mum & Dad (David and Dianne Waterhouse) arranged an excellent program that actively engaged and developed the attendees. The outdoor activities were challenging and the indoor speakers were compelling.
Well Done and Thank you to all who made it happen....and I hope that the experience convinces the new RYLArians to join Rotaract so they can continue to enjoy and enhance the Rotary experience.

President's Report 1st May 2017
President’s Report May 1
How wonderful to have a new member! Congratulations to Paul and his family- wife Celine and children Anna (our outgoing Exchange student in Japan) and Nathan. Welcome! It was also lovely to welcome 4 guests, Linda, Debbie, Joseph and Jennifer. We hope you enjoy experiencing Rotary.
Our meeting on Monday was another extremely busy evening – an induction, member talk and lots of directors reporting back to the club. I thought things might be settling down before changeover but not our club's 30th birthday, Meal from the Heart at Ronald McDonald House, Pride of Workmanship evening, Donations in Kind packing, friendship dinners, Vivid trip, Red Shield Appeal and the list goes on.
We learnt a great deal about MS from our speaker Gordon Wilkins. Interesting to know more women are affected than men and it is more prevalent in countries closer to the poles. Vitamin D seems to play a part. Wouldn’t it be good to find a cure? Thank you Gordon for such an inspirational talk. Your attitude towards your own MS journey is one to be very proud of.
Next week we have our big 30th birthday. It should be an amazing evening with possibly 16 Presidents attending. Don’t forget it starts at 6:00pm with canapes and drinks before our meeting. Thank you to all those people who have already put so much effort into planning this wonderful evening.
Have a great week and don’t forget to have fun and fellowship whilst serving Humanity.

Member Talk- Neville Hansen:
Born Easter Saturday April 1955 in Mackay, North Queensland.
I have two Brothers, one older and one younger and a younger Sister.
Have always been close to my parents and my mother still lives in Mackay and I call her every day to have a talk.
Grew up in Mackay and remember a fantastic childhood, riding bikes, playing along train lines, riding home-made go carts down lagoons, swimming in creeks and fishing.
Dad was a truck driver and was away a lot of the time, Mum used to take us fishing. One time we caught a large mud crab and we got him into a large cake tin. When we got home we took off the lid and he got out and was running around the kitchen floor. We had to get the neighbour to catch him and tie him up.
Attended West Mackay Primary School and Mackay State High School then went on to do an Electrical Apprenticeship at Pleystowe Sugar Mill. While doing my apprenticeship CSR bought the Sugar Mill. I then won the CSR Tragathan Award for all fourth year apprentices in CSR and was then asked if I would like to do a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering which I accepted.
I did the degree via sandwich pattern across six years where you work six months and then study six months. Then lived in Mackay, Melbourne and Sydney over the next six years.
Heather and I knew of each other at school and started going out in 1973. Heather did a degree in Townsville while I was doing a degree in Sydney but we made it work and were married at the end of her course and at the end of the second year of my degree in 1978.
The rest is history and we have three beautiful Children: Tim, Stewart & Amelia.
While I was studying in Sydney, Heather did her Librarian qualifications and thus followed her career.
I played soccer from age seven and have been involved in clubs right up to a couple of years ago. All our children still enjoy soccer.
I had continuity of service for 42 years even though I worked for Australian Estates, CSR, Rinker, Readymix, CEMEX and Holcim through acquisitions and mergers.
I got into Computing the last year of my degree 1982 and then spent some 15 years doing Process Control by automating factories with Computers and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). Then got into Computing Infrastructure and thus managed fleets of some 3,000 PCs, 350 sites on the networks and multiple large Data Centres.
My last couple of years I project managed the creation and moving of data centres globally which is a lot of hard work as it is all has to be done out of hours plus must be seamless to the company.
After staying with the same company so long had to endure some fun from colleges.
The things I like to do now are volunteering, fishing, travelling and spending time with my family.
New Member Induction: Paul Laroumanie (wife Celine, daughter Anna and son Nathan)
Paul was born 50 years ago in Bergerac, South-West of France. The country town is part of the touristic Dordogne Valley, famous for its wines and Cyrano (the writer/duelist with a big nose).
Paul attended school in his home town and studied IT at University in Limoges. First job was in Grenoble in the French “Silicon Valley”.
After compulsory military service as a reserve officer, Paul went back to Uni and completed a double degree in Business that included a year in England at Leicester University.
Paul started to work in the Industrial Gases industry for Air Liquide in 1994. After six years in France, Paul was fortunate to get a job in Brisbane and arrived on a 457 visa, at the turn of the Millennium.
Anna was born in 2001 and Nathan in 2003.
Paul received is permanent residency in 2006. It was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of BOC Gases where Paul still works. Paul & Celine became proud Australian Citizens in 2009.
Paul met his wife Celine in 1995 in Lille. She was a student in Economics and Paul was working there. They got married in 1999 and Celine was pregnant with Anna when we moved to Brisbane.
Once the kids were less dependent on Celine, she went back to Uni here and completed a degree in Teaching. Celine is now a full time French teacher working for an Anglican College.
Paul & Celine both like to travel, visit family and friends and are very passionate about food (in particular cheese for Paul). Paul also likes all styles of music with the exception of rap and opera. Other interests include rugby, history and economics.
Paul has been looking for something new and different in the last couple of years and the opportunity to join the Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook is great.
I am sure from what we have seen from Paul so far, he is going to be a great Rotarian.
Welcome on board Paul.
Guest Speaker – Gordon Wilkins:
Gordon lives locally and is the General Manager, Human Resources for Disability Services Australia
“Pins and needles down his left arm followed by a number of sensory symptoms was what prompted this high profile executive, husband and father of three to seek further advice.
He says his “heart sank" upon the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, the most common chronic neurological disease of young Australian.
The talk covered:
We experienced a heartfelt presentation- authentic, concise and personal.
How can we assist? Fundraising, Donation or Volunteering?

This Week's Humour
Jesus' Dad's Name
A Sunday school teacher asked her class, "What was Jesus' mother's name?" One child answered, "Mary."The teacher then asked, "Who knows what Jesus' father's name was?" A little kid said, "Verge."
Confused, the teacher asked, "Where did you get that?"
The kid said, "Well, you know, they are always talking about Verge n' Mary.''

KIDS IN CHURCH
3-year-old Reese:
"Our Father, Who does art in heaven, Harold is His name.
Amen."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~
A little boy was overheard praying: "Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it. I'm having a real good time like I am."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
After the christening of his baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him three times what was wrong. Finally, the boy replied, "That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, and I wanted to stay with you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had been teaching my three-year old daughter, Caitlin, the Lord's Prayer for several evenings at bedtime. She would repeat after me the lines from the prayer. Finally, she decided to go solo. I listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word, right up to the end of the prayer: "Lead us not into temptation," she prayed, "but deliver us from E-mail.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One particular four-year-old prayed, "And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they were on the way to church service, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?" One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
Six-year-old Angie and her four-year-old brother, Joel, were sitting together in church. Joel giggled, sang, and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had had enough.
"You're not supposed to talk out loud in church."
"Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked.
Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door?
They're hushers."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. "If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, "Ryan, you be Jesus!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
A father was at the beach with his children when the four-year-old son ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore where a seagull lay dead in the sand.
"Daddy, what happened to him?" the son asked.
"He died and went to Heaven," the Dad replied.
The boy thought a moment and then said, "Did God throw him back down?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?"
"I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied."
Just say what you hear Mommy say," the wife answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, "Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?"
