Book Sale - Update
Dear All
Max said that the Rotary book sale phone calls are increasing even more & hence there will be a much larger quantity of books to sort at the third (&last!) book sort ON TUESDAY 13rd March.
For those that have indicated that they will be coming for the morning shift, we will be starting again at 9am.
At this stage we do not have enough members and partners that have “ticked” the list for this book sort.
As we expect that there will be an even larger volume of books that will be delivered for this sort,
we really need a lot more members & partners to tick the list at tonight’s meeting or email me to let me know that you will be coming to help.
Regards
Andrew

Cherrybrook Public School - A Taste of the World
A great time was had by those that attended Cherrybrook Public School to assist with the BBQ.
March is Water and Sanitation Month
Clean water and sanitation is a human right. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, they lead healthier and more successful lives.
We don’t just build wells and walk away. Rotary members integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene into education projects. When children learn about disease transmission and practice good hygiene, they miss less school. And they can take those lessons home to their families, expanding our impact.
Rotary has issued a global challenge to its members, asking them to work collectively to improve education quality and access — particularly for girls — by working with communities to improve teacher training, curriculum, and water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities

Significant Club fundraising events during the year
The Book Sale March 2017. As the result of a lot of hard work the April Book Sale was a great success, especially from the organisers Max Henderson, Andrew Little and Clive Denmark. Funds raised were circa $13,000. Well done.
2017 Trivia Night
The Club held a very successful trivia night on Saturday 26 August 20167at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising just over $5,000 towards the charities we support.

The Garage Sale
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 7&8 October raising a record gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result.

President's Report 5th March
President Colin welcomed 28 members and guests tonight. The guests were Brian Furrer, Larissa and Brian Powyer, who will tell us about Bidjigal Reserve Trust which is a potential club project.
Thank you to all who gave up Saturday evening to cook sausages for Cherrybrook Public School and raise around $950 for the school. The book sale banner raised a lot of interest in supplying books. This week is a big week for the book sale. Sorting tomorrow, Wednesday and if necessary Thursday – please come and help if you are able to. Friday is the first day of Sale. Lots of help will be needed Sunday afternoon for clean-up. Event Dinner is Saturday evening at West Pennant Hills Sports Centre. Andrew provided the meeting with more information. District conference. Amazing, Inspirational, Fantastic. A great insight into what Rotary and non-Rotary people achieve. Tony Makin showed photos and spoke about some of the speakers as well. Theme for the conference was ‘Old ways won’t open new Doors’ – Rotary clubs must change to survive. Several speakers spoke about ways Rotary clubs can change and still satisfy the needs of longer serving members. The concept of satellite clubs to cater for the needs of potential younger Rotary members was promoted. It was recommended that Satellite clubs be given freedom to set their own rules. John Germ (Immediate past RI president) was truly inspirational, Shane FitzSimmons RFS Commissioner spoke on the changes RFS had to make to survive and there is much similarity to Rotary. Kristian Liddiard from Yellow (previously Yellow Pages) spoke on helping small businesses survive. Recent out-going exchange students provided some insights into life after Rotary Exchange.

All three are District ambassadors for youth exchange and are working on new programs to get more students from this district to take up an Exchange.

- On the way to the hospital she experienced clinical death several times, and had to be resuscitated. her injuries were so severe that she was initially not expected to live. She was admitted to hospital without a name, identified only as "One Unknown".
- Gillian Hicks was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2016 "for significant service to the promotion of peace in the community through public engagement, education and network building initiatives.

This Week's Humour
The Cynical Philosopher
♦ I read that 4,153,237 people got married last year, not to cause any trouble but shouldn't that be an even number?:
♦ I find it ironic that the colours red, white, and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you.
♦ When wearing a bikini, women reveal 90% of their body ... men are so polite they only look at the covered parts.
♦ Relationships are a lot like algebra. Have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y?
♦ America is a country which produces citizens who will cross the ocean to fight for democracy but won't cross the street to vote.
♦ You know that tingly little feeling you get when you like someone? That's your common sense leaving your body.
♦ Did you know that dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish?
♦ My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. We'll see about that.
♦ I think my neighbour is stalking me as she's been googling my name on her computer. I saw it through my telescope last night.
♦ Money talks ... but all mine ever says is good-bye.
♦ You're not fat, you're just ... easier to see.
♦ If you think nobody cares whether you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

Where to live when you retire!!!
No NURSING HOME FOR me!!!
No nursing home for us. We'll be checking into a Holiday Inn!
With the average cost for a nursing home care costing $188.00 per day, there is a better way when we get old and too feeble.
I've already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn.
For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it's $59.23 per night.
Breakfast is included, and some have happy hours in the afternoon.
That leaves $128.77 a day for lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service, laundry, gratuities and special TV movies.
Plus, they provide a spa, swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge and washer-dryer, etc.
Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap.

$5 worth of tips a day you'll have the entire staff scrambling to help you.
They treat you like a customer, not a patient.
There's a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free.
The handicap bus will also pick you up (if you fake a decent limp).
To meet other nice people, call a church bus on Sundays.
For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there.
While you're at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise, the cash keeps building up.
It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your reservation today.
And you're not stuck in one place forever -- you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city.
Want to see Hawaii? They have Holiday Inn there too.
TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem.. They fix everything, and apologize for the inconvenience.

The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they'll call an ambulance . . . or the undertaker.
If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.

And no worries about visits from family. They will always be glad to find you, and probably check in for a few days mini-vacation.
The grandkids can use the pool.
What more could I ask for?
So, when I reach that golden age, I'll face it with a grin..

Its Always time for a good laugh
CAR TROUBLE
A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died.
After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly.
She says, “What's the story?”
He replies, “Just crap in the carburetor.”
She asks, “How often do I have to do that?”
SPEEDING TICKET
A police officer stops a blonde for speeding and asks her very nicely if he could see her driver’s license.
She replied in a huff, “I wish you guys would get your act together! Just yesterday they
took my license away and now today you expect me to show it to you?”
AT THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE
A gorgeous young redhead goes into the doctor's office and said that her body hurt wherever she touched it.
“Impossible!” says the doctor. “Show me.”
The redhead took her finger, pushed on her left shoulder and screamed, she pushed her elbow and screamed even
more. She pushed her knee and screamed; likewise she pushed her ankle and screamed.
Everywhere she touched made her scream.
The doctor said, “You're not really a redhead, are you?”
“Well, no,” she said, “I'm actually a blonde.”
“I thought so,” the doctor said, “Your finger is broken.”
KNITTING
A Highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway.
Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting!
Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window,
turned on his bullhorn and yelled, “PULL OVER!”
“NO!” the blonde yelled back, “IT'S A SCARF!”
BLONDE ON TIME
A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked
her what their names were.
The blonde responded by saying that one was named “Rolex” and one was named “Timex”.
Her friend said, “Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?”
“Helllooooo...! ,” answered the blonde. “They're watchdogs.”
FINALLY !
In the swim-meet, after the blond came in last competing in the breast-stroke, she complained to the judges
that all the other girls were using their arms.
