The park has been refurbished at a cost of more than $3.4 million. The new-look park was officially opened by Her Excellency Prof Marie Bashir, Governor of New South Wales, in March 2004 and features excellent interpretative signage on the colourful history of this park.
The park’s features include concrete walking tracks, picnic areas, playground and public toilets in a heritage-listed site within a bushland setting.
With its 20 hectares of rolling landscaped hills and remnant Blue Gum forest, Heritage Park is a great location for family picnicking, walking and learning about nature. It is the birthplace of Castle Hill

Increasing Cashflow Through Retirement
Over the last few years I have experienced increasing concerns around the understanding and what is available out there to support our mature/elderly people in our community.
I have seen clients very concerned around interest rates and the income they generate in a low interest rate market.
I have seen the children who look after there parents chasing rates and being frustrated with banks.
I have seen parents and family confused about how to proceed when the family home becomes a burden or when one has to go into nursing/retirement home.
I have seen a lack of understanding around powers of attorney and wills ect .
With all the above we than have issues around Centrelink and what effect will that have on future income.
With the seminar that we have planned hopefully some of those questions can be answered.
This is not only for the elderly it is also for the children that look after and support their parents

Conflict and violence displaced more than 68 million people in the past year, and half of those are children.
We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.
HOW ROTARY MAKES HELP HAPPEN
Through our service projects, peace fellowships, and scholarships, our members are taking action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

President's Report 18th February 2019
Approximately 40 attended the Youth Night. Partners Beverly, Lyn, Pamela, Rita and Jill attended along with tribes Tchetchenian and Love. Carol invited two guests and Sue Rice attended from District. It was great to see Amelia Craig.
Thomas Hubbard (RYLA) and Zachary Tchetchenian (RYPEN) reported on their learnings. Mikaela Love reflected on her year abroad in Denmark. I doubt that we have ever seen a more mature young lady. Janelle’s mum is sick and on behalf of the Club I wish Janelle and her mum best wishes. I need also to report that Stan has spent four days in hospital and that he needs a valve inserted in his heart. I purchased an End Polio Now T-shirt from RDU. Those thinking of doing the same should be careful as the site at one stage had me purchasing three T-shirts. |
Registration for District Assembly is now required. Please register direct or via Secretary Tony.
If you have not attended Rotary Leadership Institute then I recommend the course.
RLI 50 runs over 2&3 March and RLI 51 runs over 4&18 May – both courses at District Office Thornleigh. Cost is $75 and the Club will pay/reimburse.
Next week Peter S will present an International Project for member consideration.

Night Report 18th February 2019
Opening: President elect Keith opened the Youth Night meeting and welcomed members, partners and guests including the Love family whose daughter Mikaela was here to give returning Denmark report. Other guests included Sue Rice from District Youth exchange, Thomas Hubbard and Zachery Tchetchenian reporting after respectively attending the RYLA and RYPEN courses. Amelia Craig (2016 Outbound to Switzerland) was also in attendance.
Toast: Andrew Little proposed the Toast to Rotary and to Youth.
President Elect Keith’s Report
Refer President’s report in bulletin.
Kellyville Club- a representative of the Club invited members to a Fund-Raising dinner on the 2nd March. This will also be a good opportunity to explore synergies with this Club. Refer Bulletin.
Reports
Tony Coote gave a reminder about the launch and blessing of St Gabriel’s Secondary school on Wed 27th Feb. Peter Stanton and Jaswant have agreed to represent the Club.
Max reminded us that in 2 weeks (4th March) the Monday evening Club Meeting will not be held at Springfield House, but rather at Heritage Park (near Oakhill Collage). It’s a 6pm BBQ. BYO everything. More info in Bulletin
Cawas reminded us of a BBQ at Cherrybrook Public School Sat 9th March 5-9pm. More info in Bulletin.
Rosemary reminded us the first book sort is on this Sat (23rd) 9am – 5pm at Uniting Church carpark. Cherrybrook.
Neville reminded us of the RunWest event on Sunday 31st March at Rooty Hill RSL. There will be around 15,000+ people attending so it will be busy and the day will go quickly (we aren’t the only food provider). Nev has a skeleton team and looking to beef it up so please contact him.
David Turnbull advised he attended the Wesley Mission thank you event and was moved to tears by some of the stories (he’s always crying about something).
John Thetchenian announced that he has the honour of being the new Attendance Registrar.
He will send a note out on how it will work but essentially an email will be sent out to members at 11am on a Friday reminding them that it is a 1pm cut off (in case they had forgotten to reply earlier). John asked for all replies to be only by email, NOT SMS, because sms messages interfere with his business communications.
In other matters members were advised Stan had been in hospital for 4 days for investigations prior to surgery. He is having a heart valve replacement with insertion through his groin. The explorative work this week also found a stent not functioning properly. The dye they used in him has created some kidney issues. Subject to sorting these and other things out the operation will be next Friday (22nd).
Heads and Tails was won by Mikaela, who as a dutiful Year 11 daughter gave the wine to her mother. Dad missed out again.
Colin McGowan, Night Reporter.
