“Thank you so much Adrian to you and the team. The BBQ ran with absolute precision and we are so grateful to your service and support of our community. We managed to raise almost $40k today, which will all be invested into our Arts and STEM centre that we have an ambition to build. Thanks again and see you on Saturday at the election. Attached is a post I made on our social media.”

October 2023 Update
Your opinions and votes matter!
In this update:
  • Make sure your club votes in the Regional Council election by 31 October
  • Make sure your club fills in the Rotary Community Groups club preferences form by 29 October
  • Like our new Facebook page
Dear Rotary and Rotaract members,
It was great to see so many of you at our Pilot update webinars last month. A recorded session and the accompanying slide deck can be found here.
Have your say in the Regional Council election
Today, Club Presidents received their unique link to vote on behalf of their club in our inaugural Regional Council election. They can now cast one preferential vote for each of the Regional Council positions they are eligible to vote for.

The Regional Council will represent and support clubs at a regional level, so it is important that clubs consider which candidate will be best for each role.

Voting opens on Tuesday 17 October 2023 and closes on Tuesday 31 October 2023 Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT), with votes to be submitted by Club Presidents.

Currently clubs, through their President, are being asked to complete a club preferences form by the end of October to help them be placed into a RCG. More information on RCGs can be found here.
We encourage all members to consider what opportunities your club might be able to take advantage of as part of Regionalisation.
You can watch a video explaining what Rotary Community Groups are and how they will be formed.

National Youth Science Forum

Picture
Saturday 30 September, 2023
Dear Rotary Clubs across Australia,
Rotary is a Founding Partner of the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), and every year Rotarians join our program as volunteers to support the program.
We are really excited to be able to move back to our residential NYSF Year 12 Program in January 2024, and we need your help to ensure that our students have the most amazing time!
The NYSF is seeking interest from volunteers who would like to share their time with the staff and students during the NYSF Year 12 Program in January 2024.
Volunteers with the NYSF derive a great sense of fulfilment and satisfaction from their work and NYSF is certainly very much enhanced by their generous efforts. You will get to meet and spend time with the next generation of STEM experts, while visiting some of Australia's most cutting edge STEM facilities.
Every January six to eight Rotary volunteers spend their time with us committing to:
  • Supporting the NYSF Staff and our Student Staff by being the part of the supervisory team, and
  • Providing pastoral care and first aid to the students.
You can read a position description for this volunteer role by clicking on this link.
If you would like to discuss this opportunity, here is the list of Rotary NYSF District Chairs who work closely with NYSF.
To find out more about the NYSF and what we do for our STEM students, please visit our website.

To Express your Interest to volunteer with us at the NYSF January Year 12 program and to let us know what dates you are available, please click on this button.
Volunteer Registration
Please contact us on [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns. Please note that we work remotely, and that email is the most efficient way to contact us.
We are currently updating the contact details for Rotary Clubs. If there is a more appropriate email address for your Club, please let us know.

Can you support a student in need?
January's NYSF participants may still approach your Rotary Club with requests for funding. Students have until 1 November 2023 to pay their program invoice. Thank you to all Clubs who are supporting students!
Haven't had a student approach your Club, but you have funding? Consider contacting your Rotary NYSF District Chair to see if there is a student in need elsewhere in your District, or donate to the NYSF Access & Equity Scholarship Fund.

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

Don't need:
  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week
  • to be available on weekends.

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.

If you would like to come along as a guest to see what it is all about just call either: -
Carol Russell (0418 431 157) or President Neville (0412 064 336)
