St Gabriel's Project
Rotary helps children with disabilities
The West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook Rotary Club has just completed its second project at St Gabriel’s in Castle Hill. St Gabriel's is an independent, co-educational, Catholic school catering for students with disabilities such as sensory impairment, intellectual disability in the mild to moderate range, and autism.
Our first project was to provide a shaded sensory playground and storage shed. This time we have built a vegetable garden for the children to experience hands-on gardening. The garden has raised beds, a water tank and garden shed.
Club members spent an enjoyable, rewarding and hard-working three days constructing the garden.

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

President's Report 15th July
We were joined tonight by Noel Phelan from Maritime Musuem. Noel presented an excellent presentation on world record boating speeds. It was a pleasure to hear this latest performance from Noel.
Johanna Johns (President of RC Beecroft) has finalised the invitation to several Clubs for a combined meeting on 12th August. The guest speaker will be Dominic Perrottet (NSW Treasurer). This will be a Partners Night and will be held at the newly refurbished Pennant Hills Golf Club. Note the (early) meeting times of 6:15pm to 8:30pm. The days are ‘pitched’ at anyone in Rotary – new or old and the Club would pay for any Rotary member attending. Keith mentioned the joint meeting with Beecroft Club on August 12 with the Treasurer of NSW as the guest speaker commending at 6.15pm. Cost is $30 per head and it is a Partners night. The meeting is being held at Epping Golf Club,

This Week's Humour
The Dead Horse:
A young man named Donald bought a horse from a farmer for $250. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day. The next day, the farmer drove up to Donald's house and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the horse died."
Donald replied, "Well, then just give me my money back.
The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."
Donald said, "Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse."
The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"
Donald said, "I'm going to raffle him off."
The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead horse!"
Donald said, "Sure I can, Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead."
A month Later, the farmer met up with Donald and asked, "What happened with that dead horse?"
Donald said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at five dollars a piece and made a profit of $2495."
The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain?"
Donald said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his five dollars back.
Donald later moved into the White House.
