Sarah's 16th Birthday
Sarah's birthday was last Saturday 12th November and that was the day of her party.
She had a great day starting with a 2 hour skype with her family.
Her birthday "cake" was a pavlova!!!
We all sang "Happy Birthday" to Sarah at last Monday's meeting.

The Social Leadership Team invites all members partners and their children to the Club Christmas Lunch that is being held on Sunday Dec 11th at Springfield House starting at 11.30 AM. The cost will be $60 per person for adults and $25 per child. As in recent years Kris Kringle will be held at the same time and Santa's assistant will harness up the sleigh and fly in with his elf in attendance.
It is recommended that Kris Kringle gifts be in the order of $10. Gifts for the children will be at the club's cost.
As of Nov 17th 34 members and partners are attending. Fifteen members have not yet indicated their intention. It is imperative that these members let me know if they are coming or NOT by the end of next week as we have to give Springfield the numbers attending.
Payment can be made at the front desk during the next three dinner meetings or preferably by direct credit to the Club bank account: 062890 10052963 The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook. Please add your surname & xmas as a reference.
This will be a great event, so all come along!

Elouera Cottage Crafts - Cherrybrook Uniting Church
Elouera Cottage Crafts is an activity of the Cherrybrook Uniting Church. Since 2002 we have been producing beautiful handicraft - individual one-off pieces featuring a wide range of techniques - applique, beading, crochet, cross stitch embroidery, hardanger, knitting, paper craft and patchwork.
Our 2016 Christmas 'Show & Sell' will feature an inspiring display of our members work with an extensive range of handmade items for sale. A wonderful assortment of homemade cakes, slices, jams, pickles and Christmas fare will also be available.

This is a Partner's Event
Dear Friends,
As you know November is the Foundation month. It has been our DG's wish that each Rotarian donates $ 26.50 to the Foundation this year, the amount of money which was initially donated 100 years ago.
It was agreed at the last Board of Directors meeting that we will celebrate the 100th anniversary the WP@CH way: Marc and I would like to cordially invite you and your partners to our house for dinner on Monday 21st at 14 Gumnut Road Cherrybrook. The dinner will be in place of the Springfield House 21 November meeting. Please arrive at 6.30 for a 7 pm start. You only need to bring your own drinks and a glass.
$26.50 from each member's $30 (not partner's) will become a Centenary donation to Rotary Foundation. Every member is encouraged to make a Centenary Donation which will be made to the Foundation in the member's name and a receipt provided from Foundation. For those unable to attend the dinner, the donation can be made at the next Monday dinner meeting.
We are hoping that all of you will be able to attend.

Significant Club fundraising events during the year
The Book Sale March 2016. As the result of a lot of hard work the March book fair which was a great success, especially from the organisers Max Henderson, Andrew Little and Clive Denmark. Funds raised were $14,000. Well done.
The Trivia Night
The Club held a very successful trivia night on Saturday 27 August 2016 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising just over $5,000 towards the charities we support.

The Garage Sale
We have just had a very successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 8/9 October raising a record gross of over $30k. The combination of good planning and benign weather contributed to this result.

President's Report 14th November 2016
Colin Sharpe (President Elect) stood in for President Rosemary tonight and David Turnbull stood in for Barry Freeman as Sargent.
Thank yous were made to:
a) Tom for a great night last week;
b) Brian for his work in getting the Tree of Joy up and running at Cherrybrook Village.
The following events were promoted:
a) Foundation Dinner - we have 38 attending. Four members have not responded yet.
b) Request from Operation Hope to run a barbecue at their Carols in the Valley function on Sat Dec 17th. Three members are prepared to help at this stage.
c) RYLA dinner on Jan 10th to support Julian Savio . Rosemary and Teresa going, however, Ros and Gino will be somewhere up around the North Pole.
d) AGM on Dec 5th. Most key positions for 2017/18 are filled (Treasurer, secretary, program manager). Nominations have been received for most board positions and members are still considering nominations for others.
e) Christmas Lunch at Springfield on Dec 11th. 34 adults and 7 children are attending, however, 15 members are yet to indicate their intention. We need a response from them by the end of next week for catering purposes.
A great talk from fellow Rotarian Professor Mike Pailthorpe recalling many high profile police investigations that he participated in as the forensic textile expert.

Sargeant David Turnbull opened the meeting with Acting President Colin Sharpe in the chair and Guest Speaker Professor Mike Pailthorpe in attendance.

Vocational Visit….Colin thanked Tom Westcott for a very informative and enjoyable evening the week before when we went on a Vocational visit to Toms manufacturing business Alfresco Shades where he manufactures shade sales of commercial dimensions and also for the home.
Tree of Joy… The tree is up in Cherrybrook shopping centre now and interest was keen from passers by on Sunday when this writer visited the centre.
Foundation Dinner. Members who had not done so, were asked to respond as to their attendance on Monday 21st when the meeting will be held at Therese Jankowski’s home in lieu of our normal meeting. $26.50 from the normal dinner cost to be donated to the Rotary Foundation.
Carols in the Valley for Vision Valley/Wesley Mission. Saturday 17th December. Further details required for assistance on BBQ.
30th Birthday celebrations of our Club… A committee to be formed to organise appropriate celebrations.

28th November, a Pride of Workmanship night at our Club to recognise the excellent care given to Graeme Cuthbertson during his extended stay at the SAN Hospital. It is hoped that Graeme will be able to be in attendance for a period during this evening. We look forward to seeing him.
John again thanked Tom for his hospitality at our Vocational visit the week before, it was enjoyed by all and was very informative.

The Christmas Tree is up in Cherrybrook Shopping Centre, initial round of tickets are up. Brian requested assistance with preparing the remaining 2/3 of the tickets to be placed on the tree as others were taken. Around 800 tickets all together, Theresa offered to help with the remaining tickets at Brians home on Tuesday 15th.
It was noted that this year it had been requested that the gifts not be gift wrapped, but rather just be placed in the shopping bags they came in or gift bags, but not wrapped.

- The shipping container we use for storage…. Shelves had now been installed on one side of the container, soon the other side to be done as well. Colin thanked Neville, Ross and Bob for their assistance.
- Donations in Kind.. Another opportunity to assist on 10th December at Minchinberry.
- The Annual Conference – March 11th 2017 at Penrith Panthers just the one day this year, as opposed to the long held programme of a weekend event. It was noted the immense fun of previous years and in particularly the fun had at the evening dinner when clubs vied for the best in “what ever the theme for the evening was”, not to mention the opportunity to mix and mingle with Rotarians from all over the region over a weekend event.
