Türkiye and Syria Earthquakes Emergency Appeal

 Dear ROTARY
I am writing to you today to ask for your support. Thousands of families have lost their homes after a series of powerful earthquakes ravaged southern Türkiye (formerly Turkey) and northern Syria.
The humanitarian need is immense and growing – it's the most devastating earthquake to hit the region in 100 years and could become the worst. The earthquakes destroyed thousands of homes, municipal buildings and infrastructure. Freezing temperatures, snowfall and heavy rain pose a real threat to life for people whose homes are now rubble or unsafe to use.
This is a humanitarian crisis of tragic proportions. The number of people affected is massive. But we can help and make a difference. We must reach out to the earthquake survivors and make sure they receive shelter quickly to protect them against the freezing cold.
Our emergency response team is on its way to the region to assess which communities are most in need and how we can help. For example, items like tents and shelter kits, stoves, thermal blankets and clothing could keep people warm through the freezing winter nights. Or solar lights could help people when there is no electricity.
We urgently need your help to reach as many affected families as possible. Please donate today; your support will provide life-saving aid for families made homeless by a disaster.
Many thanks for your support
Mike

Empowered Women in Trades

Hello,
Reaching out to let you know about our upcoming Tool Skills Day on March 1st in Asquith.
In partnership with nbnco, this program is about building confidence, and getting your hands on the tools to experience a 'day in the life' of a trade/trades-based job. The day will incorporate positive psychology, soft skills and of course learning to use some of the tools of the trade.
Perfect for anyone looking to explore trades as a career opportunity, in a safe space. We encourage all diverse backgrounds to join us.
Lower age limit: 17 years old (we have Working with Children Checks)
Upper age limit: None
We'd love if you could pin the attached flyer on your community notice board/send out, and please feel free to share with those who may be interested.
At the end of the day there will be opportunities to apply for traineeships with nbnco, and also with other organisations and trades.
The program is free of cost to all participants, however we do require an online application form to be completed here: https://form.jotform.com/EWIT/nbnco
If you have any questions, please do email or call me directly.
With thanks,
Hannah

Cherrybrook Community Chat

Picture
Cherrybrook Uniting Church has started an externally focused midweek activity.  This is called Cherrybrook Community Chat.
  • Cherrybrook Community Chat provides an opportunity for people within our community to meet and engage in discussion on social justice, current affairs and important topics.
  • Cherrybrook Community Chat is broadly defined as: Meet, Listen, Respect and Share as we understand everyone has different views.
  • Cherrybrook Community Chat is held on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month.  It runs from 8pm to 9:30pm in the Bethlehem Hall at Cherrybrook Uniting Church (134 New Line Road, Cherrybrook)
  • Tea and coffee is available or you can BYO if preferred.  You can also bring beer/wine and nibbles if you so desire.

The next meeting is on Tuesday 21th February  and the topics are:
  • Politics - The role of State and Federal Government in running the Healthcare system - Does the general public understand it and if not, how do they know who to hold accountable?
  • Health - Coping with COVID and long-Covid - Are health practitioners on top of this yet?

All welcome, light supper provided.

Regards
Neville Hansen

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

Don't need:
  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week
  • to be available on weekends.

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.

If you would like to come along as a guest to see what it is all about just call either: -
