Mikaela - back from Eurotour
It is hard to imagine where one will end up....... 2/07/2018
Godaften,
Eurotour was the best three weeks of my exchange so far, for sure. Obviously, I have enjoyed my time in
Denmark so much, and there are memories I have made and shared here I will never forget, however, Eurotour
was a once in a life time experience that I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in. I met
some amazing people and saw places I had only dreamed of, each with its own culture and history.

Youth Insearch and Address by Julian Lesser MP on July 17 at the Galston Club
Press release
Julian Leeser MP, Federal Member for Berowra, to address Galston Rotary club on Mental Health issues on July 17, 2018.
Julian Lesser had a special mission in entering politics. Having suffered the anguish of his father’s suicide some years ago, he is now determined to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention and to persuade governments to do whatever possible to achieve this.
On July 17 he will address Rotarians and the general public on this issue. Rotary has also invited youth crisis group, Youth Insearch, who will also give a brief address. Youth Insearch has been operating since 1985 and is renowned for its effective treatment programs which have helped countless young victims of abuse and trauma, to turn away from suicide and turn their lives around.
Many Rotary clubs have joined Galston in making Youth Insearch one of their major ongoing projects; and we will be urging Mr Lesser to push for proper funding for that organization so that hundreds more vulnerable youths can be saved. In preventing youth suicide and social dysfunction, Youth Insearch can not only save lives but save the taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars per year.
The Talk is scheduled for July 17 at 7pm at the Galston Club, 21-25 Arcadia Rd, Galston. For further enquiries contact Tom: 0418 762575 or email: [email protected]

We have been asked to provide a Meal From The Heart on Fri 20th July. Ross Ballinger has some volunteers, but if you would like to help please give him a call.
We will require 10-12 people at 3.30pm sharp
Duties will include preparing and cooking the food under direction of the chef, helping to serve the meal from bay-maries and cleaning up.
The meal time goes from 6pm to approx. 7-30 and the likely number to cater for is about 200. We can have a meal with the guests of the house. We can no longer provide grog for those in the house (they may bring their own as we can).
After dinner we can run a bingo session for the entertainment of the guests. Say 7.00 to 8.00pm.
The house is located behind the previous house. Turn left just after as you cross the bridge in Redbank Rd Northmead before the previous house and it’s the 3 story building on the left. There is limited parking underneath so the suggestion is to car pool where possible. Take the lift to the reception. Use the intercom to gain access.
Ross Ballinger has some volunteers, but if you would like to help please give him a call.
PS: I hear that Ronald McDonald himself may be making an appearance!

Presidents Report 9th July
President Colin welcomed 41 members & guests to this Partners night meeting. Our guests tonight were our exchange student Larissa who turned 16 yesterday, Ann Turner, Nicole Love (Mikaela’s mum), Joanne Sharpe and guest speaker Scott Fanker. Our partners present were: Anne, Helen, Gwen, Desley, Pamela, Lyn, Jill, Annette, and Margaret.

Peter Stanton, Julianne Anne and I went to District Changeover last Saturday evening. About 250 Rotarians and partners were present. Awards were made to a number of clubs and it was far from a boring evening. Photos of our activities were included in the photo show. A couple of items of interest were spoken about.
This year the District Governor’s Partner’s Project will be to support Grace’s Place, a purpose-built facility to provide support and medical care to children who are affected by homicide. They might be the siblings or children of a homicide victim. These young people are often the forgotten victims of a homicide and can fall by the wayside while the adults in the family try to come to terms with the tragedy that has befallen their family. |
Martha Jabour, CEO of NSW Homicide Victims Support Group, is the driving force behind Grace’s Place and will be a keynote speaker at the March 2019 District Conference, in Newcastle. John will elaborate on this wonderful project during the DGs club visits. Grace’s Place will be administered by The Homicide Victims Support Group (HVSG) (Aust) Inc., which has been operating since 1993 and has over 4,200 members (at December 2016). The founders of the HVSG were the parents of murdered 9 year old Ebony Simpson and 26 year old Anita Cobby . They were motivated to help other families survive and recover after the horrors of not only the homicide itself but also the aftermath. This included the ongoing requirement to be interviewed or spend time with Police, Courts, Media, Community interest personnel etc. Thus, the formation of The Homicide Victims Support Group (Aust.) Inc. in 1993.
Grace’s House, named in honour of Grace Lynch (the mother of Anita Cobby) will be a $9.95 million single-storey development consisting of six-buildings with on-site parking to be built on Eastern Road at Doonside and will be completed by September 2018. The centre aims to include 12 bedrooms to house 12 children and 12 adult carers.
Other items of interest this week:
Until we meet here again on Monday July 16 for more fun and fellowship, have an inspirational week.

17% of Australians suffer with a mental disorder with Depression being the main ailment Mental Health issues are the third most common health disorder after heart disease and cancer Scott advised there is a cognitive triad of depression – negative view of the world; negative view of the future; and, negative view of self Causes of depression are complicated Depression can lead to suicide with males 4 to 5 times more likely to commit suicide than females A sense of hopelessness can be a key indicator Simply asking if you are OK and listening non-judgementally can help |

This Week's Humour
Into Heaven
In a Dublin Sunday school class:
Teacher - ' If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?' 'NO!' the children answered. 'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?' Again, the answer was 'NO!' 'If I gave sweets to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?' Again, they all answered 'NO!' Bursting with pride for them the teacher continues, 'Then how can I get into heaven?' Ralph shouts out: 'YUV GOTTA BE F**KN' DEAD.' |

Car Problems
A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died.
After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly. She says, “What's the story?” He replies, “Just crap in the carburetor.” She asks, “How often do I have to do that?” |
Speeding Ticket
|
A police officer stops a blonde for speeding and asks her very nicely if he could see her driver’s license.
She replied in a huff, “I wish you guys would get your act together! Just yesterday they took my license away and now today you expect me to show it to you?” |
A Visit to the Doctors
A gorgeous young redhead goes into the doctor's office and said that her body hurt wherever she touched it.
“Impossible!” says the doctor. “Show me.” The redhead took her finger, pushed on her left shoulder and screamed, she pushed her elbow and screamed even more. She pushed her knee and screamed; likewise she pushed her ankle and screamed. Everywhere she touched made her scream. The doctor said, “You're not really a redhead, are you?” “Well, no,” she said, “I'm actually a blonde.” “I thought so,” the doctor said, “Your finger is broken.” |
