Trivia Night
.Save the date - Saturday 27th August 2016.
We are holding our annual trivia night on Saturday 27 August 2016 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre.
Save the date!
As with last year, it will be an enjoyable and affordable night at only $20.00 per person (no extra costs re the trivia rounds) with the only optional extras being a raffle and a separate activity at intermission (gold coin nearest the bottle).
Invite all your friends and relatives and start putting tables of 8 together (can accommodate 10 at a stretch).
We had around 200 people attend last year and we are targeting an additional row of 5 tables this year to get up to a record 240 people.
Last year we raised around $5,000 from the trivia night, so let’s all work on filling all 30 tables this year and beat last year’s total!
Steve Sims will be the quiz master again this year and we will have a new MC this year as Jim Simpson will be away.
You will have to guess who he is (Hint - he loves to have a microphone in his hand!).
We will start putting out lists at the meeting on Monday 18 July, which is a partner’s night.
Whilst we have asked all the local Probus Clubs and Rotary clubs to promote the trivia night at their meetings, we would like members to send the attached flyer to as many people as possible so that the trivia night gets maximum publicity.
For all the latest developments a website page has been developed by Andrew Little. Link

District Governor's Official Clubs Visit
Didi Headquarters Update
We had a celebratory week recently at Didi Headquarters, where 15 women from the Beauticians Course graduated..
These girls were felt so accomplished that, two groups of four, set off to the bank to get a loan to start their own business's..
Unfortunately, due to no collateral, the bank said no:( . Therefore, if you know of someone in the industry who would like to receive tax deductible benefits to set up a social enterprise business, which is similar to a micro loan, ask them to contact me. This would be managed by Didi Headquarters and totally accountable for.

Our other group of women were the fifty five women who attended the eight day Women's Empowerment Program.
SOME VERY EXCITING NEWS
We have just signed a contract with the Nepalese Government to run a six months computer course, where the women, will receive a certificate, similar to a cert 2 or 3. All we have to do is supply the room and equipment and source the clientele. These partnerships with the government is one avenue Didi Nepal is taking in order to become sustainable. GO DIDI NEPAL, they are doing an awesome job.

President's Report 8th August 2016
Tonight we heard about Ross and Helen’s tour of Tasmania where not only did they see how Rotary works but also helped to raise more than $30000 for Mental Health awareness. Well done Ross and Helen.
It was lovely to welcome Angelo Casamento to our club as our guest.
At this stage we have three people attending the Zone District Governor’s dinner on the 3rd September. As we are such a vibrant club it would be wonderful to have some more members attending. Please consider coming!
Next week’s meeting is a big one- Youth night. We have Sarah, our exchange student from Switzerland, introducing herself to the club plus Anna, our outgoing exchange student, who will be going to Japan next year. As well, we will be meeting Larissa who went to the winter RYPEN weekend. Several representatives from District Youth will visit us also. This is also your opportunity to sing both verses of our National Anthem. All young people at school know both verses so what better way to do so than at a youth night. The words will be provided for you!!
Please remember to book your in partners together with any dietary requirements. It should be an amazing evening.

Little Johnny nails it again!!.
Malcolm Turnbull was visiting a Sydney primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings.
The teacher asked Turnbull if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'Tragedy'.
So our illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a 'Tragedy'
A little boy stood up and offered: 'If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playin' in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy.'
'Incorrect,' said Turnbull. 'That would be an accident.'
A little girl raised her hand: 'If a school bus carrying fifty children
drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.'
'I'm afraid not explained Turnbull, 'that's what we would refer to as a great loss'.
The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Turnbull searched the room.
'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'
Finally, at the back of the room, little Johnny raised his hand and said:
'If a plane carrying you, Mr Pyne, Ms Bishop and Mr Shorten was struck by a 'friendly fire' missile & blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.'
'Fantastic' exclaimed Turnbull, 'and can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'
'Well', said Johnny, 'it has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be a accident either!...
