Ronald McDonald "Meals from the Heart" |
Tuesday 30 July |
Eleven Rotarians did a BBQ lunch for well over 100 residents of Ronald McDonald House at Westmead on Tues 30th. It started with an overview of the house, and a short video that showed how the residents really appreciated the support that they got from the house and those who helped easing their life with events like "Meals from the Heart".
We prepared and served chicken, beef and vegetarian hamburgers, as well as all the salads that go with them. All of the group was able to go and eat their lunch with residents of the house which is an important part of the day for all parties. We all had a great day as the workload was busy, but we were able to have great fellowship during the preparation and clean
up. We finished well before 2pm.
On the day as well as 8 members of our club we had assistance from Mohita (a neighbour of Ross and Helen) and 2 of her friends Rubani and Anchal. After today's positive experience where they had made a contribution to the Ronald McDonald community, they would like to do another BBQ with their friends. They all took a day of holidays from their work to come and assist.

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

The Garage Sale 2018
We have just had our best and most successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 13 & 14 October raising a record gross - north of $35k.
Excellent Project Management and a large number of dedicated volunteers, some putting in hours of effort, in the weeks before the weekend contributed to this result. |

President's Report 5th August
Tonight we received two fantastic presentations.
The first was part of a SWOT analysis that promulgated the opportunities of Climate Change on Tom’s business. The second was from Dr Tim Wade-Ferral covering Chiropractory. Dr Tim’s discussion was both entertaining and of interest. The article that demonstrates Carol’s diligence in Public Image covered our changeover. I attach the following link: https://n2nmedia.com.au/cherrybrook-issue-15-august/ , the article is on page 6. Janelle has arranged for a sample Rotary Shirt to be displayed at the Trivia Night, for comment. She is seeking comments on its possible viability as part of our new livery. I have learnt that the ire of Anne Sharpe is a thing to behold. Hint, for those that want to stay in her favour – don’t leave empty coffee mugs in the vehicle. Meals From the Heart involving a BBQ lunch was a fantastic success. Next week we meet with other Clubs at an event run by RC Beecroft. They have invited all Clubs in our zone to Pennant Hills Bowling Club to listen to Dominic Perrottet. Rotary Rocks Keith |

Bob Davison - Has been away for the last 3 months, visiting Dublin and met up with past exchange student Helouise (about 10 years ago from Belgium), who working in Dublin in a translating job. Also went to Northern Ireland, France, river cruise along the Seine. Met up with past exchange student Avi (about 2 years ago from Greenland) in Paris, she is in France for a reunion with other exchange students.
The rest of the trip was in England looking after Bev’s Mum who has dementure.
Have received and email from Clive Denmark who was requesting sponsorship for 3 girls from Norfolk Island who are in a lawn bowls competition. Keen on having a cheer squad on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd August at the Bateau Bay Bowls Club. Please speak with Bob if you are interested. He is also looking for financial support.
Peter Stanton - International – Is planning to fly out on the 13th November to Kupang Timor via Bali to work on Agriculture, water and sanitation projects. Also weaving, so the ladies can generate an income. He has forwarded and email so please let Peter know if you are interested and would like to go.
Janelle Craig - Had the interviews for the outbound exchange student, Cathrine Lawrie.
Teegan Mckew is the Winter RYPEN candidate.
She also mentioned the Bunnings BBQ for Sat. 10 August.
David Turnbull - Garage Sale for 12 & 13 October (when everyone should be back from leave) is moving along well, with everyone knowing their jobs.
John Tchetchenian - Rotary Foundation Night is going to be a TOGA NIGHT, and a partners night for the meeting on the 9th September. So please wear your Toga (or a sheet!!)
Neville Hansen - Again, thank you to all the assisted with the container clean up.
Ronald McDonald House luncheon was a great success. Everyone had time with the members of the house for a chat.
WPH school BBQ is on Sunday 11 August, and expecting around 800 serves. When the BBQ on Saturday is finished, please clean up the BBQ and utensils for their next use and return to the Church on Saturday night.
Tom Westcott - Member Talk - which was great and an eye opener regarding the ‘Global warming’ debate. Showed the SWOT idea and advised there are fires in the Arctic Circle. Heat affects a lot of things in different ways. So think of Alfresco Shades when you need cover and cool things down.
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED MORE INFORMATION ON HIS TALK.
Tim Wade-Ferrell - has been a Chiropractor for 35 years. Grew up in Epping. He has found people come to him as a last resort. He delves deeper into the WHY, you make an ache or pain, rather than just cracking bones. His message is Take control of your health, ask questions, self regulation is very important to the body.
Everyone must stretch and move more each day. Watch how long you sit for, NO more than 20 minutes, then get up, move and stretch.
I wanted to give everyone a link to some very easy and time efficient stretches that I recommend everyone does a few times a day.
This is an initiative of the Australian Chiropractors Association to help people move more.
There they will be able to download a free app that will guide them, via video, for the 3 minute stretch session.
Should any of your members have any questions I am only too happy to have a chat with them.

This Week's Humour
Here is an actual sign posted at a golf club in Scotland UK:
1. BACK STRAIGHT, KNEES BENT, FEET SHOULDER WIDTH APART.
2. FORM A LOOSE GRIP.
3. KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!
4. STAY OUT OF THE WATER.
5.TRY NOT TO HIT ANYONE.
6.IF YOU ARE TAKING TOO LONG, LET OTHERS GO AHEAD OF YOU
7.DON'T STAND DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF OTHERS.
8.QUIET PLEASE...WHILE OTHERS ARE PREPARING.
9.DON'T TAKE EXTRA STROKES.
10. WELL DONE.. NOW, FLUSH THE URINAL, GO OUTSIDE, AND TEE OFF
Max
A guy stuck his head into a barbershop and asked, 'How long before I can get a haircut?
The barber looked around the shop full of customers and said, 'About 2 hours.'
The guy left.
A few days later, the same guy stuck his head in the door and asked, 'How long before I can get a haircut?'
The barber looked around at the shop and said, 'About 3 hours.'
The guy left.
A week later, the same guy stuck his head in the shop and asked, 'How long before I can get a haircut?
The barber looked around the shop and said, 'About an hour and a half.
The guy left.
The barber turned to his friend and said, 'Hey, Bob, do me a favour follow him and see where he goes. He keeps asking how long he has to
wait for a haircut, but he never comes back’.
A little while later, Bob returned to the shop, laughing hysterically.
The barber asked, 'So, where does he go when he leaves?'
Bob looked up, wiped the tears from his eyes and said, 'Your house'!
