Presidents Report
Unfortunately, I couldn’t be present for our meeting on Monday 05 September night but from all accounts, it was a tremendous night. Firstly, we were joined by staff from ResMed who shared their expertise in updating members, partners and guests about sleep apnoea and the latest in innovative technology to help monitor this condition (thank you Joy and Alex Jugueta for facilitating these speakers). And secondly it was a huge membership focused evening that saw the Club significantly grow its member base, as we welcomed in three new members – Lucy-Jade Folkard, Anne Sharpe and Vince Delpopolo, one transferring Rotarian, Kaye Carter, as well as recognising Past President Barry Freeman as an Honorary member (this formality having been delayed due to COVID). This now takes Club membership to 42 and sees female representation sit very close to the 30% target International RI President Jennifer Jones is advocating. So well done to Carol as Membership Director and the membership team, and congratulations to our newest members – we hope you feel at home in the Club and strive to help us work towards achieving great things for humanity.
By now you’d also be aware of our next fundraisier- the Mini Garage Sale scheduled for Saturday 1 October 2022. While we’re used to the previous model of the three-day Garage Sale, this time round we’re embarking on a cut-down version of this event – keeping all the good features like variety in stalls and stock, streamlined purchasing and having fun, but realising the need to adapt to a different business model that is more in keeping with the capabilities of the club (especially in terms of physicality and logistics). So, with that in mind, I’d encourage all members and partners to get involved and lend a hand if able- whether this be helping out on a stall, baking for the cake stall, helping to promote the event, or assisting with the ‘bump-in’ and ‘pack down’ – every little bit helps and is very much appreciated. In keeping with the Board’s focus of addressing vulnerabilities, the funds raised from the Mini Garage Sale will go towards various Rotary charities, and in particular, ‘Street Side Medics’. This Sydney based charity is run by the 2022 Young Australian of the Year, Dr Danny Nour, and provides free, GP led, mobile medical service to people experiencing homelessness. As an update, Board is also pursuing a Commonwealth government grant as part of the 2022 Volunteer Grants round now open in the Berowra electorate and supported by Federal MP Julian Lesser. These grants are designed to help the local community, by making grants of between $1000 and $5000 available to eligible not-for-profit community organisations to support the efforts of Australia's volunteers. The grants can be used for buying equipment for volunteers or reimbursement of volunteer fuel, transport or training costs. Board met to discuss a number of options and agreed to submit an application for a new container and canopy for Michele Rocheta’s ‘Goods Rescued and Re-homed’. These grants are highly competitive, meaning we may not be successful, but unless we try, we aren’t in the contest; we’ll keep you posted as to how we go.

Call to order by Jim at 7:30pm. He called John Tchetchenian to do the toast for the night. John dedicated the toast to the Rotary International and the Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook.

Sergeant Session – Number of raffle prizes was provided by ResMed together with the raffle of bottle of wine. Also, breaking the tradition of heads and tail, this time was a trivia question put forwarded to all members and guests more about what do you about Mudgee.
