The West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook Rotary Club Giant Charity Garage Sale was held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th October 2018
Despite the rainy weather, which resulted in having to split the venues between the Fire Station and the Cherrybrook Uniting Church, the garage sale was a great success, with around $27,000 (net) being raised.
Funds raised will be donated to Club charities and the funds raised for the drought relief fund (donation jars) will be donated to the Coonabarabran drought relief fund to be provided to farmers in the region (for more information please click HERE)
The West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook Rotary Club would like to thank all of the WPH&D Probus Club members & other volunteers who helped us out at the various stalls & also during the packing up on the Sunday afternoon and on the Tuesday morning.
We would also like to thank the Cherrybrook Rural Fire Service for the use of the fire station and surrounds and for their help during the weekend, the Cherrybrook Girl Guides for the use of the Guide Hall for the bric-a-brac stall and the Cherrybrook Uniting Church for the use of the Church carpark area.
The club would also like to thank the local community who supported the garage sale by coming along and buying items.

Rotary Giant Charity Garage Sale cleans up again
The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook charted in 1987 runs an annual garage sale in October that has been operating since 1993 and has become an iconic event for bargain hunters and those wanting to help people. Around $27,000 net was raised despite the rain, exceeding expectations. Preparation occurs across the year with the sale date set in November and preparation starting in April then ramping up in the two months before the sale.
The event could not happen without the assistance of club’s 40 Rotarians, local businesses donating equipment and goods, the Rural Fire Service, the Girl Guides and community volunteers. Around 100 people work in various roles on the sale days.
The sale has a fun atmosphere. Our BBQ, the Delhi Heights’ Indian restaurant (Dural) stall and Rotarian Ricardo’s Lebanese food stall were very popular. Face painting and balloon animals helped create a party atmosphere. The food, and goods sold provide the Club with money to support Rotary’s mission, which is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
Due to the rain this year we successfully operated across two sites with the willing assistance of the Cherrybrook Uniting Church and their covered garage.
The gold coin entry provides customers with a raffle ticket and an estimate of how many people visit (over 1200 year). This year the entry money will be donated to farmers for drought assistance. The raffle winners were: Erika (West Pennant Hills), Julie (Castle Hill) and Joanna (Cherrybrook). The Bric-a-brac raffle was won by Jenny (Cherrybrook).
At the end of the sale the left-over goods were donated to The Salvation Army, Providential Homes and Wayside further supporting people who need help.
We thank all our business supports, volunteers and customers for the success of our sale and look forward to another one next year.
