The Heartwarming moments you made happen

We are halfway through the year, and thanks to supporters like you, Cawas, it's been a big one full of hugs, smiles and happy tears.
Our Rise kids are flourishing, finding the confidence to become karate champs (Bella, 7), set their own pace (Jill, 10) and get back into the classroom (Nick, 7).

Young people in custody in Stand As One are making us proud with their great work ethic and attitude (Nathan, 19).

It's also been a year of firsts. Our parenting program is now available for mums transitioning out of custody, Playgroup is up and running for kids and dads in custody in the ACT, and SUPER excited kids enjoyed time with their dads at Clarence's first Child & Parent Day.

As always, thank you! 💛

Hi Fellow members and partners
Only 2 weeks to go to the Bunnings BBQ at Castle Hill on Saturday 24th August.
Attached is the roster of members and partners who have volunteered to help. 5 or 6 more volunteers would make our jobs easier. Please let me know if you are able to help, and also which shift(s) you are able to work.

Rotary Collaboration In Action

Picture
Picture
The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook is assisting the Kenthurst Club with grounds maintenance at the Transitional Community houses for older women.

It was wonderful to receive the following testimonial from one of the tenants.

"This program literally saved my life and has given us an opportunity to get back on my feet.  When I found myself facing a housing crisis, this program gave me hope and a chance at a safe new beginning for me and my children.

The teams have been incredible, my family is safe and sheltered and we look forward to a bright and secure future.  The teams that help look after us are professional and have helped every step along the way. They have never made me feel ashamed as a low-income earner or single parent.

My property manager is quick to respond, and nothing has been too much trouble.
Our case manager is incredible, my kids are safe and happy, and we feel genuinely cared about in this program. We are so lucky to be in a country that supports programs like this."

A personal invitation to District 9685 Conference 2025
A Sustainability and Humanitarian Summit
March 21 and 22 in Penrith

Picture

Dear fellow Rotarians,

It gives me great pleasure to personally invite you to our 2025 District Conference to be held at the Pullman, Penrith, on 21 and 22 March 2025.

Our conferences have always been a one-of-a-kind expo on humanitarian work with high quality speakers - a great way to share stories of the good work of Rotary, and to make and renew friendships with fellow Rotarians.

As global humanitarian needs reach record levels, our Rotary community is looking for ways to widen our reach and deliver more to those in need locally and globally. Accordingly, our 2025 District Conference has been themed as our first ever Sustainability and Humanitarian Summit for “A Better World through people & Rotary”.

Some highlights of our Sustainability & Humanitarian Sumit:
  • It will bring together all Rotarians from our District as well as appeal to people from the broader community who want to make a difference – so they can hear Rotary’s stories and opportunities for humanitarian service.
  • We will have a series of short presentations by clubs (in-person or pre-recorded) that showcase their signature projects and the impact they have had.
  • To generate ideas and new ways to solve humanitarian and sustainability problems, the Summit will host a competition for university/TAFE/high school students to channel their creativity and develop social impact projects that could be scaled up by interested clubs.
The Summit presents us with a pivotal opportunity to reenergise how we solve community problems, while also growing membership and boosting our public image.

Watch this space for more details of these new elements, the overall program and keynote speakers. The team and I will keep you updated of major developments over the coming months.

I appeal to you for your support in registering, in inviting your friends, and in starting to think about how your club can use the airtime on stage to share the best of what you do every day for your communities locally and globally.

You can register through this link - https://ourbetterworld2025.wordpress.com/

Join me and together we can make ‘A Better World through people and Rotary’!

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

Don't need:
  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.
