Thank You
A big thank you to Karen, George, Adrian and Neville for a great job with the lawns on Wednesday. Not only did we do the lawns but managed to cut some small and not so small privets trees …… in the process created work for the Kenthurst boys who cleaned up after us!!!
Talk about team work 😊
It was great to see West Pennant Hills & Cherrybrook mentioned on the stall Kenthurst Transitional Housing Project had at the District Conference on Saturday.
Well done and thank you.

Theatre for a Cause - raising funds for Respectful Relations Program
Often education is one of the first areas abandoned when domestic and family violence occurs. With the support of Rotary Australia World Community Service, Rotary District 9685's Respectful Relationships Program have created two compassionate funds to provide opportunities for recipients to close this gap.
For school aged children, Safe Hands Bursaries will provide a $500 bursary to help them experience a ‘normal’ schooling. So funds can be used for education resources, school excursions, after school activities etc.
For adult survivors of domestic and family violence, Strong Arms Scholarships are designed to enable the attainment of either a TAFE or university qualification that can contribute to a career and earning capacity and a sustainable lifestyle.
The Rotary Club of Carlingford values the importance of D9685’s Respectful Relationships Program and will be donating funds raised from this theatre night to this worthwhile and impactful program. We'd love you to join us to support this cause.
To members & friends of the Rotary Club of Carlingford
We are pleased to invite you to join us for an excellent night of comedy for all to enjoy at:
Pavilion Theatre,
Castle Hill Showground,
10 Doran Drive,
Castle Hill.
This play is on Wednesday 2nd April 2025. The Rotary Club of Carlingford looks forward to seeing you for a night of excellent theatre at the cost of $30 per person. Cash payments will be collected on the night. Please RSVP to Janelle on [email protected] by ideally by 28/02/2025.

Glorious!

By Peter Quilter Directed by Meredith Jacobs
Based on a true story, this hilarious and heart-warming comedy tells the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the worst singer in the world.
Set in 1940s New York, the singer everyone wants to see is the enthusiastic (and slightly delusional) soprano dubbed “the first lady of the sliding scale”. Glorious! follows Florence Jenkins as she warbles her way from charity recitals and extravagant balls, to bizarre recording sessions at the Melotone Studios and finally her triumphant performance at Carnegie Hall. All aided and abetted by a circle of devoted friends who are almost as eccentric as she is.
Join Florence and her friends for a delightful and blissfully funny play that generates a glow of warmth and lots of laughter.
Glorious! was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award – Best New Comedy (2005) and inspired the 2016 movie Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant.
By arrangement with ORiGiN™ Theatrical on behalf Samuel French A Concord Theatricals Company
We will be serving cheese and wine in the foyer before the play, as approved by the Board of the Pavilion Theatre.
The doors will be open from 7:30pm, with the play starting at 8:00pm. As those who have attended previously will know, parking is extremely easy. For those who are uncertain about directions, the theatre is in the Castle Hill Showground precinct, off Showground Road at Castle Hill.

Club Transformation Workshop Resources
The header and the long list, in the link, were a major "turn off" for me.
On the third go, I went past the list and found the Vimeo Presentations. WOW! |

I recommend you partake at will. Yes, the two Mark Huddleston presentations are there. There is also a third.
Andy Rajapakse's presentation shows a Club that has progressed considerably in transformation, and involved the Community.

Are You Able to Help?
Following our most successful Annual Book Sale we have been approached by a member of the community. This lady wrote:
“… I recently attended your book fair, as I do every year and bought a bag of books. As I went to read one of the books tonight, a handful of photos fell out. I thought it would be great to give them back to the owner if at all possible! The names on the back of one of the photos says David and Lesley Newlands so hopefully someone knows who they are, or the owner contacts you looking for their photos. …” If you think you can assist, please either respond to this posting, or, email [email protected] Editor: "Lightbox" is On, so clicking on either image will expand the photo. Unfortunately, the writing "on bottom left" of lower photo is still illegible.
Update:
There have been four comments on nextdoor - all expressing sentiment but not giving any leads to follow. The Club has received an email from a lady whose maiden name was Newlands. She may be related but did not express interest in looking at the pictures. |

Anzac Commemoration Dinner 2025
The Secretary of The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook,
Dear Neville,
Please find our invitation attached to our 61st ANZAC Commemoration Dinner on Wednesday the 23rd of April 2025 to be held at the West Pennant Hills Sports Club, 103 New Line Rd, West Pennant Hills.
Could you please circulate our invitation amongst your membership and friends?
We are proud and most fortunate to engage a very interesting guest speaker, Mr. Ken Bradley OAM, who will deliver his presentation on the infamous WW2 Burma-Thai Railway (including Hellfire Pass) built by the Japanese using 60,000 allied POW’s as slave labour from 1942 to 1943 under the most horrendous conditions.
Ken’s address will be a rare opportunity to hear and learn about this tragic part of the war. His story will serve to remember and honour the victims as part of the ANZAC spirit and legend.
Ken was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2019 for his community work and his involvement in the restorative projects on parts of the Burma railway, such as Hellfire Pass from the overgrown jungles. Ken was born in Melbourne and graduated as a petroleum geologist. He worked and lived in many Asian countries, Sumatra, Indonesia, Singapore, Bangkok Thailand, Yangan Burma and Baku Azerbaijan - near Iran. Ken is a resident of Dural and is active member of the local Historical Society with a particular research interest in the remembrance of local WW1 enlisted men.
You will be warmly welcomed to enjoy our traditional fun and fellowship to be part of this special evening of tribute to the sacrifices and memory of our servicemen who were forced to live, work and suffer under their Japanese captors 82 years ago.
The invitation provides a booking slip with contacts.
Looking forward to welcoming your members.
With best wishes,
Lion Geoff Irvine,
On behalf of the Anzac Dinner Committee.

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a professional and personal development program for members which started on the east coast of USA in 1992.
The overriding goal of the course for club Rotarians is to create enthusiasm for Rotary by opening up to them the world of Rotary outside of their own clubs and also showing them the great potential of Rotary service for the benefit of the world that can be furthered with excellent leadership in our clubs.
This year we are bringing you a revamped model with exciting new program, working in conjunction with RLI International as well as RLI across Australia and NZ to bring you the best.

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
