A solid Foundation

Picture
One of Rotary's greatest strengths is the ability of our members to come together to create lasting change, and The Rotary Foundation helps us transform dreams of change into reality.
From eradicating polio to building peace, much of the work we do around the world would not be possible without our continued support of our Foundation.
The cause of peace is especially important to me, and one of the most effective ways we build peace is our Rotary Peace Fellowship - a product of The Rotary Foundation. The program helps current and aspiring peace and development professionals around the world learn how to prevent and how to end conflict.
Thanks to a $15.5 million gift from the Otto and Fran Walter Foundation we can continue supporting peacebuilders in more regions with the next Rotary Peace Centre, at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul.
Opening yet another peace centre is a monumental achievement that we will celebrate at the 2025 Rotary Presidential Peace Conference in Istanbul.
The three-day conference, February 20-22, will highlight the many ways our family of Rotary advocates for peace. Keynote speakers, panel discussions and breakout sessions will allow us to share ideas about building peace and foster meaningful conversations about promoting peace everywhere.
Registration for the Presidential Peace Conference is open. I hope to see you there, but if you can't make it, our Foundation offers so many ways to change the world for the better. November is Rotary Foundation Month, a great time to get to know your Foundation better and pursue causes that appeal to you.
Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary's areas of focus. By working together to respond to pressing community needs, clubs and districts strengthen their global partnerships.
District grants fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in your community and in communities abroad. Each district chooses which activities it will fund with these grants.
Our Foundation can even help you support our wonderful youth programs, including Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Interact.
Your g ifts to our Foundation also make Programs of Scale possible. These are long-term projects that seek to solve otherwise intractable problems.
To ensure these good works continue beyond our lifetimes, it is up to us to reach our ambitious Rotary Endowment goal of $2.025 billion by June 30, 2025.
The Magic of Rotary does not appear out of nowhere. We create the magic with every new member inducted, every project completed, and every dollar donated to our Foundation.
Please join me in supporting The Rotary Foundation and together we will change the world for the better.

An Invitation to our President

13 November 2024

Dear President of Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook,

I am writing to invite you to a very special event in celebration of an extraordinary milestone within our Rotary Club. This year, we will be honouring one of our own, Alan Grady, who has dedicated 50 years of service to Rotary—since 1974.

As Rotarians, we all understand the true meaning of Service Above Self, the guiding principle that defines our mission to promote peace, support local communities, and foster goodwill around the world. Alan has exemplified this principle in every aspect of his life. Through his unwavering commitment to the values of integrity, honour, and selfless service, Alan has made an indelible impact both within our club and across our global network.

Throughout his five decades of membership, Alan has not only been a source of wisdom and inspiration but has also spearheaded countless initiatives that have improved the lives of others. His leadership and dedication to service have helped strengthen our Rotary Club and extended our reach in making a positive difference in the world.

We are proud to honour Alan for his outstanding contributions, and we would be truly grateful for your presence at this special celebration in his honour.

A personal invitation to District 9685 Conference 2025
A Sustainability and Humanitarian Summit
March 21 and 22 in Penrith

Picture
Picture
Dear fellow Rotarians,

It gives me great pleasure to personally invite you to our 2025 District Conference to be held at the Pullman, Penrith, on 21 and 22 March 2025.

Our conferences have always been a one-of-a-kind expo on humanitarian work with high quality speakers - a great way to share stories of the good work of Rotary, and to make and renew friendships with fellow Rotarians.

As global humanitarian needs reach record levels, our Rotary community is looking for ways to widen our reach and deliver more to those in need locally and globally. Accordingly, our 2025 District Conference has been themed as our first ever Sustainability and Humanitarian Summit for “A Better World through people & Rotary”.

Some highlights of our Sustainability & Humanitarian Sumit:
  • It will bring together all Rotarians from our District as well as appeal to people from the broader community who want to make a difference – so they can hear Rotary’s stories and opportunities for humanitarian service.
  • We will have a series of short presentations by clubs (in-person or pre-recorded) that showcase their signature projects and the impact they have had.
  • To generate ideas and new ways to solve humanitarian and sustainability problems, the Summit will host a competition for university/TAFE/high school students to channel their creativity and develop social impact projects that could be scaled up by interested clubs.
The Summit presents us with a pivotal opportunity to reenergise how we solve community problems, while also growing membership and boosting our public image.

Watch this space for more details of these new elements, the overall program and keynote speakers. The team and I will keep you updated of major developments over the coming months.

I appeal to you for your support in registering, in inviting your friends, and in starting to think about how your club can use the airtime on stage to share the best of what you do every day for your communities locally and globally.

You can register through this link - https://ourbetterworld2025.wordpress.com/

Join me and together we can make ‘A Better World through people and Rotary’!

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required

  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.
