Invitation to visit RC Pennant Hills

Picture
Hi Neville,
Trust you have settled in as the president of your club. I just wanted to confirm the details of the meeting we invite you and your members to come to on Wednesday August 2nd.
We have Tim Sowden coming to speak about the Thornleigh Zig Zag Railway, which has generated a lot of interest lately.
We meet at the Pennant Hills Community Health Centre, 5 Fisher Avenue, Pennant Hills at 6.30 for a 7.00pm start. We’ll have tea and coffee available but a reminder that there is no meal available. Could you let me know a day or so before how many we can expect to join us on the night.
 Regards,
 David Firth

Editors Note:
Ros Hogan has confirmed she is happy to collate numbers. Please email Ros if you wish to attend.
I suggest an RSVP by 5pm 31st July.
There is further information, on the railway, at: -    Home | Thornleigh Zig Zag Railway

The Perfect Murder - Now includes updated comments from Max.

Hi again

An update;
We currently have ten plus four TBC, a good start but as I said Monday night a few more would be nice.
Following next Monday night’s meeting at Springfield I need to finalise numbers and report back to Clive.
  • There’s actually two hotels in Woy Woy, the Woy Woy Hotel and the Bayview Hotel, with the later appearing to be the better of the two.
Thus, suggest we meet 5.45pm to 6.00pm in the bistro at the Bayview Hotel, 2/16 The Boulevarde
  • I have made some motel enquiries and the Mantra Ettalong Beach, appears to be the best option.
I will leave it with you to make your own reservations.
Once we have our final numbers, I will book the Bayview’s bistro (let me know if you prefer to pass on the bistro) and organise carpooling.
Any questions, please give me a call.

Just spoke to Clive (Tuesday 11 July) and he requires confirmation of our numbers asap, it order to give us a block booking, thus;
If you can support, please advise Max (email preferably) and transfer $45.00pp into our club’s General Account.
Please identify your payment with your surname and murder.

Hi everyone
Clive Denmark is a past president of our club, who relocated to the Central Coast about eight years ago and subsequently joined The Entrance club. He is now also a past president of that club.
Whilst at our club he was one of the members that instigated our “Giant Book Sale” and accepted the challenge of managing these annual sales until he relocated to “The Coast”.
He has continued to support our club on numerous fronts, including the provision of commercial recycling bins for our book sales at no cost, a significant saving for our club.

Subsequently, on the rare occasion he seeks our support, we do our best to reciprocate.

Those that were contacted by Clive have already indicated their readiness to support, which we are now extending to all members.
Given it’s about a one-hour drive, we will try to organise:
  • Car pooling
  • Dinner, possibly at the Woy Woy Hotel
  • For those that may elect to do the return drive on Saturday, details of a local motel

If you can support, please advise Max (email preferably) and transfer $45.00pp into our club’s General Account.
Please identify your payment with your surname and murder.
Ideally, we need numbers by mid-July.

The following email from Clive provides additional details of the night:
WPH & C Rotary club kindly supported a previous theatre night that we ran at the Woy Woy Little Theatre Company about 5 years ago
The Entrance Club has booked out the Peninsula Theatre, Woy Woy (110 seats) for the evening of Friday 18th August.
We are endeavouring to get corporate sponsors to cover the cost of booking the theatre and for the champagne & finger food that will be available
The play that night is "the Perfect Murder" by Jeffery Archer & has the added interest for our members that our incoming President Gordon Crawford is playing the part of the Police Inspector.
MR Google says the journey time is just over an hour from Cherrybrook (it’s around 30 minutes from the Entrance!)
Barry Freeman & Janet Hamer (who now lives close by at Blackwall) have both expressed interest in coming.
We have not yet determined the recipient for funds but it is likely to be a domestic violence of Health on the streets related project.
We would very much appreciate your support. If my memory serves me right 2 carsful travelled north to support us last time!!!

What it takes to be a Rotarian

There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club.  From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure.  The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.

Don't need:
  • to be invited
  • to be of a certain age
  • to be male
  • to be a business person
  • to be retired
  • to attend meetings every week
  • to be available on weekends.

Must have:
  • a sense of humour
  • a willingness to give back to your community
  • a willingness to pitch in when required
  • some time available to help out on the occasional weekend event
  • an interest in the life of the West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook communities
  • a desire to contribute in some way to the running of the Club.

If you would like to come along as a guest to see what it is all about just call either: -
Carol Russell (0418 431 157) or President Neville (0412 064 336)
