Tents have reached families in Gaza
Dear ROTARY
Thanks to your support, over 1,100 tents arrived in Gaza last month, with our partners distributing them to families in need, and more aid on the way.
Nine months of conflict have left 430,000 homes damaged or destroyed. Families face years of displacement, therefore the tents we’re providing are long-lasting and portable.
For people who’ve had no choice but to sleep out in the open or in overcrowded buildings, these tents are making a world of difference.
Items like tarpaulins, water carriers, mattresses, and blankets have also been delivered to thousands of people.
Getting aid to those who so desperately need it remains challenging.
Along with our partners, we will remain flexible, overcome each challenge, and get more lifesaving aid to the people who desperately need it - because while it won’t solve the crisis, it will save lives.
Please help us to reach more families in Gaza with this life-saving aid.
If you haven’t already, please support our Gaza appeal today.

Spotlight on those risking it all
Monday marked World Humanitarian Day.
To mark the day, we put the spotlight on our incredible partners who risk it all to deliver our life-saving aid to those who need it.
Last year marked the deadliest on record for humanitarian workers, and 2024 is on track to be even worse.
In Gaza, our partners MAP (Medical Aid for Palestinians), SDF (Social Development Forum) and PARC (Agricultural Development Association) are risking their lives in a very active and unpredictable conflict zone.
If you have already donated, thank you. If you would like to help those in need, please donate today.

The Ghost Train |
By Arnold Ridley. Adapted by Jocelyn & Nicholas Ridley. Directed by Stephen Snars |
It is, as they say, a dark and stormy night. The train pulls in. Three stops from nowhere, you and your fellow travelers are unloaded into a railway station waiting room with both an unhelpful stationmaster and arguably the most annoying man on earth. There are no more trains until tomorrow. What could possibly be worse?
Well, it could be a haunted railway station with a lethal ghost train due to arrive any minute.
Mind the gap, hold on tight and join us in a comedy thriller by Arnold Ridley (from Dad’s Army) jam-packed with subterfuge and mirth, that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat until the final whistle.
By Arrangement with ORiGiN™ Theatrical on Behalf of Samuel French A Concord Theatricals Company
We will be serving cheese and wine in the foyer before the play, as approved by the Board of the Pavilion Theatre.
The doors will be open from 7:30pm, with the play starting at 8:00pm. As those who have attended previously will know, parking is extremely easy. For those who are uncertain about directions, the theatre is in the Castle Hill Showground precinct, off Showground Road at Castle Hill.
Can you please let us know how many of you and your friends are coming by Thursday 12th September 2024?
We look forward to seeing you there!

The Rotary Club of West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook is assisting the Kenthurst Club with grounds maintenance at the Transitional Community houses for older women.
It was wonderful to receive the following testimonial from one of the tenants.
"This program literally saved my life and has given us an opportunity to get back on my feet. When I found myself facing a housing crisis, this program gave me hope and a chance at a safe new beginning for me and my children.
The teams have been incredible, my family is safe and sheltered and we look forward to a bright and secure future. The teams that help look after us are professional and have helped every step along the way. They have never made me feel ashamed as a low-income earner or single parent.
My property manager is quick to respond, and nothing has been too much trouble.
Our case manager is incredible, my kids are safe and happy, and we feel genuinely cared about in this program. We are so lucky to be in a country that supports programs like this."

Dear fellow Rotarians,
It gives me great pleasure to personally invite you to our 2025 District Conference to be held at the Pullman, Penrith, on 21 and 22 March 2025.
Our conferences have always been a one-of-a-kind expo on humanitarian work with high quality speakers - a great way to share stories of the good work of Rotary, and to make and renew friendships with fellow Rotarians.
As global humanitarian needs reach record levels, our Rotary community is looking for ways to widen our reach and deliver more to those in need locally and globally. Accordingly, our 2025 District Conference has been themed as our first ever Sustainability and Humanitarian Summit for “A Better World through people & Rotary”.
Some highlights of our Sustainability & Humanitarian Sumit:
Watch this space for more details of these new elements, the overall program and keynote speakers. The team and I will keep you updated of major developments over the coming months.
I appeal to you for your support in registering, in inviting your friends, and in starting to think about how your club can use the airtime on stage to share the best of what you do every day for your communities locally and globally.

Some highlights of our Sustainability & Humanitarian Sumit:
- It will bring together all Rotarians from our District as well as appeal to people from the broader community who want to make a difference – so they can hear Rotary’s stories and opportunities for humanitarian service.
- We will have a series of short presentations by clubs (in-person or pre-recorded) that showcase their signature projects and the impact they have had.
- To generate ideas and new ways to solve humanitarian and sustainability problems, the Summit will host a competition for university/TAFE/high school students to channel their creativity and develop social impact projects that could be scaled up by interested clubs.

What it takes to be a Rotarian
There are members of the community who may have some misunderstandings about what it takes to be a Rotarian.
We are always looking for new members and, in fact, it is new people joining that keeps us alive as a Service club. From time to time I hear people say things that make me think they don't consider joining or even visiting Rotary for all the wrong reasons.
This article is about the things you don't need to join Rotary, and the things you do, just in case you are not sure. The other thing you should know is that we are a very friendly bunch of men and women and we have a lot of fun, as well as achieving some pretty good things in the community.
