President's Report
Hi all,
On Monday we were back at The Vicar and had some 35 people attend. Our Guest Speaker was Dennis Van Someren from The Rotary Club of Kenthurst and Dennis talked on “Older Women’s Transitional Housing”. Dennis gave us a run down on the statistics of transitional housing and how it is needed now, not in five or ten years’ time especially in the Hills district. Our Club currently does garden maintenance at two transitional houses at Kenthurst which Kenthurst Rotary is associated with. Thank you Dennis.
Updates from past weeks:·
Presidents Lunch on Saturday 15 June:
At the District Presidents Lunch on Saturday our Club has won the District International Service Award for 2023-2024. This is a fantastic result and as you know the Club has been working on this international project for several years to install 70 water tanks and 70 toilets into Flores, Indonesia. The Club received a Rotary Global Grant of US$50K in August 2023 to implement this project. I would like to thank Peter Stanton, Andrew Little, Janelle Craig, Tony Coote and Tony Makin for making this possible. Well done Guys. I would also like to thank the whole Club for their contribution to this project.
· Tafe Dinner: On 4 June we had 22 people attend. Food and service were fantastic, thank you to Douglas for organising this evening.
· Sandra Whites’s Friendship dinner. On Sat 8 June we had a friendship dinner at Sandra’s, main course in the Club House at Sanctuary Gardens and then dessert back at Sandra house. A very good night and dinner was fabulous.
· A friend of Edwina’s lost a long time friend who was in Rotary. They had a memorial service for him on Saturday, so Edwina’s friend took one of our collection bottles and collected $56 on behalf of Rotary. Thank you.
So, looking forward:

Also, she mentioned also that the next Castle Hill Bunnings BBQ will be on July 6 to include cake install as well. Support is needed for Ros Hogan who will be in charged of the BBQ in the absence of Kerry Mann. On the other hand, Bob W. talked about the 2 prior BBQ he attended that we need to continue doing this BBQ initiative.

There are 8 international exchange students will be coming in August. A young student from France will be hosted by our club and the exchange student committee will have a meeting with new incoming student with her parents. - Tony and Douglas mentioned about Christmas on July 19 at Pennant Hills gold Club.
- Anne Sharpe introduced the guest speaker for the night:
Dennis Van Someren – Summary of his presentation on Transitional Housing Project is as follows:
Some seven years ago, he and his local friend from Annangrove RFS became alarmed at the plight of women and children becoming homeless, so they decided to try and do something about it.
Homelessness has become a pandemic and domestic violence seems out of control, with some 110,000 women in NSW over 45 at risk of becoming homeless. The fastest growing sector of homelessness is women over 55.
The urgency to do something about this pandemic is such that the way forward is by community driven projects. Obviously, political decision making has fallen way short of the mark, so the presentation to WPH/Cherrybrook is a part of a call to arms.
For more information on the Transitional Housing Project refer to the website of Kenthurst Rotary Club Website on Transitional Housing.
- He reiterated that we very much like to have as many Centurions as possible. Pls consider giving $100 to Foundation.
- Reminder that we have our Changeover dinner on Friday night at Springfield. Pls remember to bring your badges.
- Next Monday 24 June, we have Iisa’s farewell at the Hotel Pennant Hills starting at 6:30 for 7pm.
- Thank you to Dennis for your very interesting talk.
- Thank you all for attending, members and partners and visitors
- Remind everyone of “What’s On” and Calendar
