Presidents Night Report for Monday 3 March 2025
President’s introduction:
Thank you to Neville for standing in for me last night, and to Janelle for running the Youth Night. This report contains input from Neville.
Welcome members, partners, guests and our youth speakers.
Feedback has indicated the District Governor’s visit last week was well received. Niranjan has followed up with possible additional international projects in India that would be suitable for a Global Grant. Beecroft does one every year and he believes our Club could follow suit.
Thank you to everyone who turned up to help with the book sorting last Saturday.
Thank you to the lawn mowers and line trimers. Anne, Timothy, George, Gino, Adrian. Done in record time.
Thank you to Kaye who has found sponsors to give us significant dollars to defray book sale expenses.
Thank you to Adrian and Neville who helped at Michele’s on Friday at short notice to help clear some portable sheds for transport to the Easter Show. Need another day at Michele’s to clear sheds, either Monday 10 Mar, or Wed 19 Mar.
RuffTRACK are now offering us 10 complimentary tickets to their Trivia night 6pm Sat 29th March, Panthers, North Richmond. Please let Janelle know if you would like to attend. Janelle, Elise and I will be attending.

District Assembly on Sat 5 April, at the Lindfield Learning Village. For all Board members for the coming Rotary.

My report tonight has some memories from the 70’s for those being a bit naughty on the road.
Night Report
Night Report
Sergeant Neville opened the meeting, welcomed everyone to Hotel Pennant Hills and called on John Tchetchenian to make a toast. John toasted Rotary, Rotary Youth Programs and the youth of Australia.
Neville presented the President’s Report in Colin Sharpe’s absence. Refer President’s Report in Bulletin.
Youth Night
Janelle Craig highlighted the key Rotary Youth initiatives currently undertaken by the Club being the National Youth Forum (NYSF), Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) and Rotary Youth Exchange Program (RYEP).
Our first guest speaker this evening was Rosie Sedgewick who we first met at our November 2024 Youth Night where she spoke of her desire to attend the National Youth Science Forum. Rosie attended the Forum in Canberra for seven days with each day dealing with a different aspect of science. This forum exposes students to many areas of science and helps narrow down choices for them. Rosie is drawn to aeronautical engineering however one of her highlights was making her own ice cream.
We then heard from Michelle who attended the Summer RYPEN program being a camp held in February at the Sydney Academy of Sports at Narrabeen. Sixty young students attended this camp where they took part in team building activities and activities that stretched boundaries. They learned valuable leadership skills. Michelle wants to be an Officer in the Airforce and currently participates in Airforce Cadets.
Our sponsored student in the Youth Exchange Program, Georgia, has returned from a year in Chile. Georgia opened her speech in fluent Chilean. She had an amazing year learning a new language, culture and native dance. Her biggest challenge was making friends and adapting to school life not speaking the language. Georgia attended a local Rotary Club in Chile and went to regular meetings which helped her learn the language. Highlights of her trip included meeting people, making friendships and travelling to Easter Island. She concluded her presentation with a video of her experiences.
Elise gave us her weekly update. On Wednesday she attended her first swimming carnival. She was disappointed as she sat and watched and did not participate. Elise is doing visual arts at school and on Friday went to the Art Gallery to see ARTEXPRESS. She worked hard at the book sort on Saturday and then went to a ‘dress up’ birthday party. On Sunday she went to AFL training. Elise has moved back with Janelle for the remainder of her time in Sydney.
Directors’ Reports:
Domestic Violence - Janelle said the scholarship program is ramping up and exciting things are happening.
International - Andrew said discussions are underway in relation to toilet construction.
Membership - Carol advised leadership training courses are coming up. She highly recommends members attend. There is a Directors’ Training Course on 5 April.
Public Image - Keith is looking at more Rotary shirts.
Book Sale - Robyn thanked everyone for helping on Saturday and outlined proceedings for lead up to Book Sale. Glenda Coote is looking for bakers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A dinner will be held on Sunday night at the West Pennant Hills Sports Club following the end of the Book Sale.
Sergeant’s Session
Neville had us all guess the number and location of Rotary Book Sale banners and corflutes erected around the area. Everyone got involved and received a chocolate for great participation.
March Birthdays - John Tchetchenian and Anna Vass were congratulated on their birthdays.
Raffle - Michelle’s Mum and Dad won the raffle being a lovely basket of goodies donated by Kaye.
Bouquets - In addition to the bouquets for Jeremy Carter and Adrian mentioned in the President’s Report, Robyn Hain was nominated by Keith Ball to receive a bouquet for the amazing work she is doing with the Book Sale. Well done Robyn.
