President's Report |
Monday 24 February 2025 |
RI President Elect Mario Cesar Martins de Camargo at the International Assembly announced his theme for 2025-26. He asked members to Unite for Good by embracing three “essential pillars” for growth: innovation, continuity, and partnership. One important way to do this, de Camargo said, is by embracing and promoting a variety of club models. Satellite clubs, cause-based clubs, enterprise clubs, and passport clubs offer people different ways to experience Rotary. Partnering with business associations, professional organizations, and academic institutions can help Rotary attract members while embracing diversity in professions and perspectives.

Night Report
Opening
Sergeant David opened the meeting and Carol presented the toast to the DG and our club.
President’s Report
President Colin welcomed DG Niranjan Deodhar, members and partners.
Rotary reached the ripe old age of 120 yesterday!
Colin thanked Carol, Janelle and Neville who attended the Central Coast Fit for Purpose meeting with Mark Huddleston.
Colin advised that RI President Elect Mario Cesar Matins de Camargo had announced the theme for next year – “Unit for Good”. Members should also have received the District Newsletter, Rotary Pacific Regional Council Update and District Club News. If you are not receiving these, suggest you check the junk box in your email account.
North Ryde Rotary Club has extended an invitation to attend a lunch on May 24 to hear the Chair of ROMAC Glenys Parton from NZ speak.
Minutes of the board meeting on 12Feb25 have been emailed to all members.
Presentation
The club then presented an update on all the activities of the club in a very professional powerpoint backed up with personal comments by the board directors. The highlights are as follows:
District Governor
DG Niranjan provided his own PowerPoint (of which I don’t have a copy) and responded to our presentation as follows:
David advised Keith to appeal to Donald Trump to sort out his problems with Facebook since he has friends in the media industry (one of whom likes playing with chainsaws in company time).
David then facilitated his winning the raffle before ensuring that Kerry won the heads and tails (after chasing the coins all over the room).
President Colin wrapped up the night
Colin thanked the contributors to a successful meeting and the DG for his inspiring presentation.
Next week is a Youth Night - this will definitely be at the Penno Pub despite contrary notes that it may be at the Vicar.

Presentation
The club then presented an update on all the activities of the club in a very professional powerpoint backed up with personal comments by the board directors. The highlights are as follows:
- Community Service – assisting at school markets, cutting grass to assist Kenthurst club, building at Helping Hearts Survive and Michelle’s Place and the outstanding performance of Tree of Joy both in Cherrybrook and Westleigh.
- Foundation – push for all members to become Centurions and our continued support for “End Polio Now”.
- Fundraising – Christmas Market and Book Sale supported by ongoing Bunnings BBQs which provide a surprising amount of funds.
- International – the WASH project in conjunction with NTA continues successfully plus Teacher in a Box which is changing lives at little financial cost. At the break Peter and Andrew played a very impressive video on the WASH project which will be played at the conference.
- Membership – Carol continues to encourage potential new members by attending BBQs etc and has professional pamphlets for anyone interested.
- Public Image – we appear where possible in publications and on the web to advertise our club. Kaye has been very successful in securing sponsorship. Keith, despite daily efforts, is fighting a battle to keep us prominent in Facebook.
- Vocation – we have had several successful vocational visits and Kerry has more in the pipeline. Pride of Workmanship will be supported in May.
- Youth – we have supported the Science Experience by sponsoring kids from Coonabarabran, supported summer RYPEN, missed out on RYLA but will keep trying and are enjoying Elise’s visit from France and celebrating the return of Georgia from Chile under the international exchange scheme.
- Club Services – the wheels of the club are well oiled with a busy programme of meetings and social events.
- District 9685 Respectful Relationships Program – Janelle is chair of this scheme which is forging ahead including the successful launch of the Scholarship scheme.
District Governor
DG Niranjan provided his own PowerPoint (of which I don’t have a copy) and responded to our presentation as follows:
- He was impressed by the scope of activities.
- He sees the DG role as a back up role to clubs rather than providing directions.
- He advised that the survey process we have adopted should attempt to identify what the club wants rather than what we personally want.
- He likes the donor trip process which opens up the effect of our overseas activities to more members (and others).
- He thinks that potential members should be invited to attend activities rather than a meeting.
- Our support of RoughTRACK is good since it recognises equality rather than the elitist approach in some Rotary activities.
- He had brief comments on the Regionalisation process:
- It is bad in focusing on membership rather than attracting interest to Rotary plus it misses the advantage of using the districts.
- It is good in providing a single voice and a single point of contact for politicians etc
- He believes they have learned a lesson on this process and will do better.
